Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is one of our favorite comfort foods. Tender beef patties simmered in rich brown gravy with mushrooms and onions. This crockpot salisbury steak is perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice or pasta!

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
This easy Salisbury steak one of our favorite family meals! I love using my slow cooker any time of year! We serve this on top of garlic mashed potatoes or rice but my all time favorite is serving it over cooked macaroni noodles. Add a side salad and you’ve got the perfect meal!
Since I’m the one who does most of the cooking, I love coming home to a ready meal and this easy slow cooker Salisbury Steak recipe tops my list.
The beef patties simmer all day in a rich gravy with mushrooms and onions resulting in a really flavorful dish and making them extra tender.
A lot of people confuse Salisbury steaks (which is a combination of ground beef in gravy) with Swiss Steak which is generally minute steak with a tomato-based sauce. (You can find my favorite Swiss steak recipe here).

Tips for Crockpot Salisbury Steak
This Easy Salisbury Steak can be prepared in a skillet but I love it in the slow cooker since it can be prepped ahead of time and it’s ready right when we get home from soccer practice.
- Homemade patties: it doesn’t take long to make the beef patties homemade, and they taste absolutely delicious.
- Sear the Patties: The simple step of searing the beef patties just helps them to hold their shape without falling apart plus browning meat always adds extra flavor!
- Freeze Option: I often double the beef patties in this recipe and freeze half of them (without browning them first) for next time. If you happen to have pre-made frozen beef patties they can be used in this recipe as well with great results.
- Ground Turkey Option: We have also made this recipe with ground turkey (I also add a bit of celery to the mixture) and a turkey gravy with great results. The patties always come out flavorful and fork tender.
Once seared the patties are layered in the Crock Pot with sliced onions and mushrooms. Next, I combine the gravy ingredients and pour it over the patties. While some recipes do call for cream of mushroom soup, I prefer this version with a richer darker gravy.

Easy Salisbury Steak Leftover Idea
Should you be lucky enough to have leftovers (we rarely do), this reheats perfectly and makes a great messy sandwich in a hamburger bun topped with sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise.
This easy salisbury steak recipe reheats perfectly and freezes well too!

I absolutely love this dish, I made it on top of the stove. I did not change a thing . This will be a regular at my house.
Would there be anyway to use frozen sirloin patties? My husband bought a huge bag for some reason and I need something else to do with them beside regular burgers already. I normally make my own so I can season to taste but I definitely do not want to waste this large bag.
It isnt a favorite for my family…We ju youst tried this tonight, and I’m still looking for one my husband will like.
Thanks for sharing this recipe. I’m really not a good cook but these recipes look so uncomplicated, I really plan to use these,
Enjoy Suzanne!
I do not have cornstarch…any subs available?
You can thicken your gravy with flour in place of cornstarch.
Made this today, It’s delicious! We all loved it & will be making again, soon. Thank you!
Hi Holly I was wondering why you just use the yolk of the egg and not the whole egg ?
I find that using the whole egg makes the patties too moist so they don’t hold together as well.
I have used this recipe twice now. This last time I used sliced sirloin tip and added 3 tbsp ofwhite balsamic and a teaspoon of real powdered wasabi to the gravy mix. I also substituted Chevril for the parsely.
Can’t express how much better it was this time.
I am assuming you used pinko crumbs and breaded the patties before browning?
The patties are not breaded. The crumbs are added into the beef mixture in step 2.
Can you shorten the cook time if you start later in the day? I want to make this for my family, but I can’t start until about 3pm and 5 hours is a long time!
As this already cooks on high you can’t turn it up to make it cook faster. You could cook it on the stove top for a shorter period of time.
Love these recipes thank you
Made this tonight. I took the advice about doing it in a Dutch oven. I added some cumin, savory smokehouse seasoning and Worcestershire to the burger. I told my very picky 8 year old to try it and see if he wanted A1 or BBQ (he puts it on all meat) and he said it was yummy just like that. I think he had it gone before we were ready to eat and ate seconds!
So glad your family loved it Kara!
How long did you cook it in the Dutch Oven and what temp? Thanks
350 for about 45 min.
I made this recipe today. i used Herb and Garlic bread crumbs instead of Panko because I thought I had Panko and didn’t. I also the whole onion and the whole 8oz of mushrooms that I had. This was AMAZING, I can’t wait to make it again! It was REALLY easy and tasted delish!
I’m so glad you loved it Samantha! I bet the seasoned bread crumbs added nice flavor too!
Made this today. Got rave reviews. Delicious.
Holly, when I put the ingredients into the slow cooker it looks dry. Is this what it should look like it needs more liquid.
It should be just fine. The meat and the mushrooms will both release liquid as well.
Dry minced onions or fresh onions cut into minced pieces?
Fresh onions minced.
I used Dry Minced, I assumed that was what you meant. I also used 85-15% ground beef. It was delicious!
Could regular hamburgers made be used on this receipe.
Yes that works perfectly.
I made this about a month ago! My husband has a condition where he can only eat soft foods he absolutely enjoyed it it was easy for him to eat!! Ty for this recipe
These recepies looks so delious. Am going too try, them!!!!
I’ve never cooked in a crockpot but this makes want to try. Question – what size crockpot are you using for this recipe?
I made this in a 4QT slow cooker. Give it a try Vanessa, I think you’ll love how easy it is!
I have this cooking in my crock pot right now for our Christmas Eve dinner. Can’t wait to try it!!
