What Is A Casserole?

A casserole is what your mom used to make when you were a kid! It is made in a large deep dish that is used both during cooking and serving (less dishes, yay!). You assemble it in the dish, then bake it in a low temperature oven until it is ready.

My favorite casseroles usually have some sort of topping on them, such as breadcrumbs or cheese (or both, like in chicken divan). Once your casserole is hot and bubbly, you have a complete meal ready to go!

Casseroles generally take less work than a normal dish, which is why they are made by so many families during the busy weeknights. You can make a lot of them ahead of time and just bake them right before you want to eat!

Most casserole dishes make great leftovers too. I love having leftover unstuffed cabbage roll casserole and leftover cheesy beef and macaroni casserole for lunch the next day!
