Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is one of our favorite comfort foods. Tender beef patties simmered in rich brown gravy with mushrooms and onions. This crockpot salisbury steak is perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice or pasta!

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
This easy Salisbury steak one of our favorite family meals! I love using my slow cooker any time of year! We serve this on top of garlic mashed potatoes or rice but my all time favorite is serving it over cooked macaroni noodles. Add a side salad and you’ve got the perfect meal!
Since I’m the one who does most of the cooking, I love coming home to a ready meal and this easy slow cooker Salisbury Steak recipe tops my list.
The beef patties simmer all day in a rich gravy with mushrooms and onions resulting in a really flavorful dish and making them extra tender.
A lot of people confuse Salisbury steaks (which is a combination of ground beef in gravy) with Swiss Steak which is generally minute steak with a tomato-based sauce. (You can find my favorite Swiss steak recipe here).

Tips for Crockpot Salisbury Steak
This Easy Salisbury Steak can be prepared in a skillet but I love it in the slow cooker since it can be prepped ahead of time and it’s ready right when we get home from soccer practice.
- Homemade patties: it doesn’t take long to make the beef patties homemade, and they taste absolutely delicious.
- Sear the Patties: The simple step of searing the beef patties just helps them to hold their shape without falling apart plus browning meat always adds extra flavor!
- Freeze Option: I often double the beef patties in this recipe and freeze half of them (without browning them first) for next time. If you happen to have pre-made frozen beef patties they can be used in this recipe as well with great results.
- Ground Turkey Option: We have also made this recipe with ground turkey (I also add a bit of celery to the mixture) and a turkey gravy with great results. The patties always come out flavorful and fork tender.
Once seared the patties are layered in the Crock Pot with sliced onions and mushrooms. Next, I combine the gravy ingredients and pour it over the patties. While some recipes do call for cream of mushroom soup, I prefer this version with a richer darker gravy.

Easy Salisbury Steak Leftover Idea
Should you be lucky enough to have leftovers (we rarely do), this reheats perfectly and makes a great messy sandwich in a hamburger bun topped with sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise.
This easy salisbury steak recipe reheats perfectly and freezes well too!

I would recommend halving the mince with sausage meat as my patties didn’t stay together well otherwise. But it’s delicious :-)
Looks yummy!
This is an amazing recipe! My family loves it! Thank you for posting!
I’m so glad your family loves this recipe!
I wonder if you could make this with meatballs instead? I’m got meatballs I already made… anyone tried this? (My husband and son want this but love meatballs haha)
I bet that would work perfectly!!
You could do all of the recipe in that skillet and eat in 1/2 hr.???????
You certainly could. I love to prep this ahead so I come home to a ready meal after a long day or after soccer practice when we’re ready to eat.
Should the patties be submerged in the mixture inside the crock pot or should they just be laying on top?
They may not be completely submerged. The mushrooms release juices and shrink as the dish cooks.
My patties are not really covered at all? Followed recipe. Has been cooking for an hour and smells great!!
It’s ok if they aren’t covered, the mushrooms & onions will shrink down a bit too. Enjoy!!
Looks so good

minimal dish’s used….and it’s just as good the next day……flavors are mixed
and matched and tossed around…delicious….delicious……tony
you can add….garlic…onions….sauce…water…
What can a use as instead of mushrooms
You can leave them out or try adding extra onions.
Could I do this on high for 2.5 hours?
I think that should work just fine!
thank you sooo much for having this recipe printable….am making it this week
Enjoy! It’s one of our favorites!! :)
I was wondering if it would work in a pressure cooker
I think it would, I haven’t tried it so I can’t say for sure how long it would take.
This reminds me of my grandmother! She always made Salisbury Steak on the stovetop (her recipe is very close to yours) and served it with baked potatoes and green bean casserole. I wanted to try a new recipe. Unfortunately I only had a tablespoon and half of catsup but otherwise followed the recipe. Mine was cooked perfectly in my slow cooker in 5.5 hrs on the 6 hr setting. After adding the cornstarch slurry, had to add about a cup more of beef broth to have a nice consistency gravy. Although I loved this old fashioned, my northwest family tolerated it (they prefer fish and grilled meat). I will make again once in awhile. Thanks for the recipe.
It is great comfort food, reminds me of being a child too!
Got it in the crock pot right now! Smells amazing! I used beef consume instead of broth so I hope it’s just as good! Thanks for sharing
Consume should work just as good! Enjoy!
Found this recipe on Facebook! I’m notoriously the worst cook ever :(
This seems easy enough, so I’ve just put it all together in the crock pot!
Wish Me Luck!
It’s a favorite around here, hope you loved it too!
