This Broiled Parmesan Tilapia is the best tilapia recipe I’ve ever had with a tender flaky fish fillet and an amazing parmesan crust!
This broiled tilapia recipe has been pinned 750,000+ times, and for good reason. Once you’ll try it, you will see why everyone raves over this recipe and it will be one of your go-to tilapia recipes!

This Parmesan Broiled Tilapia is so easy and delicious, making it one of my absolute favorite tilapia recipes! With just a few minutes to prep and this whole dish is on the table in 10 minutes start to finish!
Serve this easy dish with a squeeze of fresh lemon or Dill Pickle Tartar Sauce, roasted broccoli and a side salad for the perfect meal.
What is Tilapia?
Tilapia is a white fish that was traditionally found in Africa, but is now farmed in many countries including domestically. It is an excellent source of protein and a good source of vitamins and minerals. So not only is it good for you, but the fact that it is delicious is just a bonus!
While this recipe calls for tilapia, any white fish can easily be substituted with excellent results!

How to Cook Tilapia
You’ll be amazed at how easy (and quick) most tilapia recipes are. Like most fish, it is important that you do not overcook your tilapia fillets as they can dry out. You can cook tilapia in the oven or it can be poached, fried, or broiled.
In this recipe, I have chosen to broil it. I love how quick it is but also that this tilapia recipe creates a very moist flaky fish with a beautifully browned parmesan crust!

How Long to Cook Tilapia in the Oven
While you can easily make oven baked tilapia, I do love broiling it to make it really fast. Broiled on high, this tilapia recipe only takes 3-4 minutes per side, depending of course on the size of the fillet. If the fish fillet is quite large you will need to increase broil time by a minute each side.
Baking tilapia is as easy as broiling is but will not produce an outer crust as browned and delicious. For this reason I prefer to broil the tilapia in this recipe.
Parmesan Broiled Tilapia is a great start to any meal in under 15 minutes. We serve it with Green Beans with Bacon and a side of Garlic Butter Rice for the perfect meal! Risotto, pasta and of course classic french fries are all great sides for this fresh and crusty entree! While it makes a quick meal during the week, this recipe is definitely one you will want to serve when you have guests over. It will be a favorite for sure!

This is a fantastic recipe! I added a little more dill than the recipe calls for and the family loves it!
I made this with salmon. Cooked it longer. Used Hellman light mayo, parsley instead of dill, and Promise buttery spread. It was really easy and reall good. Will definitely make it again!
This is my family’s new favorite way to eat Tilapia! Thank you for such a great recipe! I love it!
I made this tonight and I must say it was very delicious!!! This recipe is a keeper. I did use grated Parmesan cheese and I did lightly season fish with sea salt and pepper but you don’t even need to the parmesan topping already has so much flavor I wasn’t expecting it to. This is the first time I wrote a review and Im going be honest I wrote it because while I deciding to make it i was reading the reviews and I said to myself these people are just saying its good it’s probably not that good but what the heck i already have everything to make it and don’t have to go to the store. I was wrong though I absolutely love this recipe so simple but so good!!!!
I am so glad you enjoyed it Allanna! <3 Thank you for your review!
So I made this, replacing mayo with plain Greek yogurt because of IBS, and mayo is a huge trigger “food” for me. Maybe it was because of this, but it didn’t stick well, or spread. Following all the other ingredients, I ended up having to add more seasons because this thing was so very bland. So I put it over rice, added in some garlic and Tony Chacher’s, and at least didn’t have a complete failure of food.
Just got finished making this,
. It was delicious.
I am making this now, & my topping melted off :( how did y’all get it to stay and crisp up? Smells delicious though!!
I didn’t have that problem. Were your ingredients warm when you put them on? Maybe try chilling the topping ingredients next time before you broil it (it may just be related to a particular brand of product you are using)
Finally trying all my pins and I found this one and got around to trying it. It was over EXTREMELY well. Only me and my son eat fish in this house. He was completely bummed that I only made 4 pieces for the 2 of us. It went over so well that randomly a few days later my son tells me that he NEEDS to have “that” fish again. Definitely will be a tried and true repeat in my house. Thanks for the great recipe!!
I would like to make fish but in the past the fish I have had has had a “fishy” taste. I have been told that is because if the fish is not “extremely” fresh it will be that way. Any ideas on cooking this? or is this true? If so, what is a mild fish? It looks really good, I am just extremely nervous about cooking it.
I personally find tilapia to be very mild. I like to sometimes soak the fish in milk for a couple of hours first, this seems to give it a milder flavor! It’s super easy to cook and tastes light and delicious!
So I don’t have a working broiler in my large kitchen oven. I often overlook recipes that call for the broiler. However, I recently received a rather nice toaster oven (the kind that supposedly can roast a whole chicken!) for a wedding gift. It does have a broiler option but I was wondering if you think I would receive the same result as with a full size oven.
Thanks!
I definitely think it would work! Be sure to preheat the toaster oven first.
I found this on Pinterest and it was a life saver. My family loved it and I did my first blog post referencing it. I didn’t have dill on hand so we used some Italian seasoning. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
Would this recipe work for salmon? I have some salmon in my freezer and want to find something to do with it that everyone might like.
You may have to adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of your salmon, but it should work! We’d love to hear how it turns out for you!
can you use cod or sole or does it have to be tilapia?
Readers have used other white fish and had great success with this recipe!
This recipe was a huge hit in our house. I subbed lemon basil for the dill just because that’s what I have on hand. It was delicious. I got picky 2 and 4 year olds to eat fish and ask for seconds! Yea! Thanks.
What can I use instead of dill? I don’t have any
You could use a little bit of dried basil or oregano.
Is the Parm cheese shredded or grated?
Either will work! I used shredded.
What a great recipe!! I made it for lunch and everbody loved it!
Thank you so much!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
I’ve heard some less-than savoury rumours about tilapia and the way they are farmed so I’ve always steered clear of it. Does anyone know if you can do this sort of recipe with halibut or haddock? It looks delicious and I definitely want to have a go with it! :)
It can be made with any white fish! Enjoy!!
Whoops! Only found this reply today! Thank you so much!
:)
My husband didnt blveiee that I made this myself, he swore I got it from a restauraunt. It came out amazingly and the only complaint my husband had about was that he could feel my arteries closing up lol. thanks so much
Is a broiling pan necessary? Also, is grated parm okay??
