This Parmesan Broiled Tilapia is so easy and delicious, making it one of my absolute favorite tilapia recipes!  With just a few minutes to prep and this whole dish is on the table in 10 minutes start to finish!

Serve this easy dish with a squeeze of fresh lemon or Dill Pickle Tartar Sauceroasted broccoli and a side salad for the perfect meal.

What is Tilapia?

Tilapia is a white fish that was traditionally found in Africa, but is now farmed in many countries including domestically. It is an excellent source of protein and a good source of vitamins and minerals. So not only is it good for you, but the fact that it is delicious is just a bonus!

While this recipe calls for tilapia, any white fish can easily be substituted with excellent results!

How to Cook Tilapia

You’ll be amazed at how easy (and quick) most tilapia recipes are. Like most fish, it is important that you do not overcook your tilapia fillets as they can dry out. You can cook tilapia in the oven or it can be poached, fried, or broiled.

In this recipe, I have chosen to broil it. I love how quick it is but also that this tilapia recipe creates a very moist flaky fish with a beautifully browned parmesan crust!

How Long to Cook Tilapia in the Oven

While you can easily make oven baked tilapia, I do love broiling it to make it really fast.  Broiled on high, this tilapia recipe only takes 3-4 minutes per side, depending of course on the size of the fillet. If the fish fillet is quite large you will need to increase broil time by a minute each side.

Baking tilapia is as easy as broiling is but will not produce an outer crust as browned and delicious. For this reason I prefer to broil the tilapia in this recipe.

Parmesan Broiled Tilapia is a great start to any meal in under 15 minutes. We serve it with Green Beans with Bacon and a side of Garlic Butter Rice for the perfect meal! Risotto, pasta and of course classic french fries are all great sides for this fresh and crusty entree! While it makes a quick meal during the week, this recipe is definitely one you will want to serve when you have guests over. It will be a favorite for sure!

  1. Absolutely delicious & SO easy! Love tilapia and we made this just as your recipe reads & it is definitely a keeper in our home! Thanks for sharing….

  2. Could I use ranch dressing instead of mayo? Don’t have mayo in the house as we don’t typically eat it.

  3. Is there a way to prepare this recipe without the mayo? It looks delicious but I don’t care for mayo. Thank! Love the blog!

    1. Although I haven’t, you could definitely try it without the mayo! The mixture becomes quite thick and I am sure it would work well!

      1. Made this tonight and it was a hit! I substituted plain Greek yogurt for both the mayo and butter and it was delish!

      2. What a great and healthy idea! I can’t wait to try it that way! Thanks for sharing!

  4. I tried this recipe last night and it was a hit with my family, even my girls who are not fish eaters loved it! I believe I have found a new way to serve my family fish, thank you!

    1. Fresh dill which is the same as dill weed. It is delicious and summery tasting… I like it in salads too! :)

  5. Made this for dinner tonight, I didn’t have regular parm so I subistuted the three cheese blend, shredded Parmesan, Romano, and Asiago. All I can say is WOW simply amazing. We grilled it for 7 minutes then finished off in the broiler for a nice crust.

  6. Has anyone tried cooking this on the grill? If so what would be the times on grill verses the broiler?? Thanks.

    1. If you cook these on the grill place tin foil underneath it to prevent sticking and the fish burning. Make sure to watch closely so you don’t overcook the fish.

  7. This was amazing!! All of my kids LOVED it and asked for more. I’ve never been able to get them to eat fish. Thanks so much!!

  8. I made this last night and it was a Huge Hit! Husband and kids Loved it! Will definately cook this again, and again! Thanks for sharing!!

  9. I just had to tell you how much I Love this recipe!! I made it tonight with cod and It was a huge hit!! It was so yummy, the timing was perfect. I made parmesan squash “chips” on the side. Thanks for the recipe!

  10. Has anyone tried making this with already breaded fish? The Tilapia we have is breaded and I wonder if I top it with some of the same ingredients if it will work out? Thanks!

    1. I haven’t but I would worry that the breading would burn if you broiled it. You could definitely add the topping and cook according to you package directions!

Let us know if you try it!! :)

      1. I would assume putting the mayo over breaded fish would make the crust soggy. Bake the fish first and then top with mayo, finishing off in the broiler

    2. I have made it twice and the second time I added bread crumbs to the parmesan mixture to ensure some extra crunch. Delicious.

  11. I just made this for dinner tonight, it was so easy, and so delicious. I have made Tilapia many ways, and it has never had the reaction this got. Thanks for posting this recipe. My family appreciates it. yum
