Everyone loves a plate of gooey, loaded nachos but this version is not like the usual nachos!! Crispy cinnamon sugar tortillas are topped with chocolate, caramel sauce, fruit, and whipped cream!
Favorite Dessert Recipe
We love charcuterie boards and make them often for guests. I had never thought of having a sweet dessert version until I saw the book Dessert Boards by Kellie Hemmerly! So many pretty and fun ideas to share dessert with friends for family. Great for anything from sleepovers or game nights to your neighbors stopping by for a visit.
- Dessert nachos are fun to make with the whole family, and can easily be customized with your favorite fruits.
- The cinnamon sugar tortillas (from this book) would also make a great scooper for fruit salsa.
- Everything (except slicing the banana) can be done ahead of time so it’s easy to put together last minute.
- It’s an out-of-the-ordinary dessert, and so fun to share!
Ingredients & Variations
TORTILLAS We love white corn tortillas and found they gave the best texture. Flour tortillas will work too, or try this recipe with chips made from pita bread and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Frying time can vary depending on the thickness of the triangles.
CINNAMON SUGAR The fun of these crispy chips is that they are coated in cinnamon sugar to make them sweetly spiced. Swap out cinnamon for your favorite warm spices like apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice.
SAUCE Use a bottled variety of dessert sauce, or even better, make an easy caramel sauce and some fudge sauce.
TOPPINGS When it comes to toppings the choices are endless. Check out Kellie’s book for more great ideas! And don’t forget the Whipped Cream!
How to Make Dessert Nachos
It’s easy to layer up this dessert platter to crispy sweet perfection.
- Cut and fry tortillas in batches and coat them with cinnamon sugar (as per the recipe below).
- Make two layers of tortillas with preferred toppings.
- Drizzle with sauce, top with whipped cream, and dig in!
Swap out the toppings, add extra fruits, drizzle with sauces, sprinkles, and whipped cream.
Family Gift Idea: If you’re looking for a fun family gift idea, grab a copy of Dessert Boards and pair it with a basket of goodies or a pretty board.
Tips for the Best Dessert Nachos
- Flip each tortilla chip once during frying so both sides turn golden brown and crispy.
- Be sure to sprinkle chips with cinnamon sugar while they are still warm so it sticks.
- For additional toppings, try to stick to one or two flavor combinations so that the dessert doesn’t get overly sweet and sticky.
- The tortillas can be made a day ahead, just store them in an airtight container on the counter. If you’d like you can warm in the oven for 10 minutes before layering with toppings.
- Add toppings just before serving.
