Crack Dip is an amazing dip, great for parties or game day! With a creamy cheesy base and loads of bacon and cheddar, it’s seasoned with ranch seasoning mix for a crowd pleasing favorite!

Just like jalapeño popper dip or buffalo chicken dip, this dip is sure to be a crowd favorite!

What is Crack Dip?

I have to tell you, I did not name this dip but I do love to make it! Crack Dip is easy, cheesy and full of bacon-y goodness.

Cream cheese, sour cream and mayo make the base oh-so-creamy and it’s flavored with ranch dressing mix (I make homemade). Add in crumbled bacon (or bacon bits), cheddar and green onions.

Variations

Spicy Add in a handful of diced jalapenos or a splash or two of hot sauce.

Meaty Add chicken or sausage

Seasonings Swap out the ranch mix for Italian dressing mix or your favorite fresh herbs

Bake It Serve it cold or bake this dip in a 400°F oven for 20 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

How to Make Crack Dip

This is so easy it’s ready in just 2 simple steps!

  1. Mix the first 5 ingredients together with an electric mixer. If you are mixing by hand, make sure the ingredients are at room temperature. This makes them easier to mix, just be sure to refrigerate before serving.
  2. >Gently fold in the remaining ingredients and refrigerate at least one hour before serving.

Best Dippers for Crack Dip

Here is a list of my favorite dippers for this cheesy crack dip!

  • Crackers: Any kind of buttery-flavored crackers, Triscuits, or slices of toasted baguettes.
  • Chips: Any kind of tortilla or potato chip.
  • Veggies: Celery sticks, carrot stick, or cucumber slices. Try filling mushroom caps and heating with a little parmesan cheese melted on top.
  • Spread: Or, use as spread on a sandwich or burger!

Notes

*Note: I add the full package of ranch mix however it can be a bit salty. Start with half of the mix and add more to taste.
You can use homemade ranch dressing mix to reduce the sodium.
Allow the flavors to blend for at least 1 hour in the fridge.

    1. We haven’t tried freezing this dip but it should be fine, Tanya. Just store in an airtight container and when ready to serve, let thaw in the refrigerator overnight and refresh the flavors before serving. You could leave out the green onions until ready to serve to ensure they still have a nice crunch to them.

  1. Delicious! I live in NZ where we don’t really have ranch seasoning so made my own (also don’t have buttermilk powder) but still turned out beautifully. Used Tasty cheese for the cheddar. I had some left over boiled potatoes and it was so good with that too so I’d say it would be perfect for potato salad as well. No issues with saltiness for me

Paired well with all sorts of crackers and Bluebird ready salted chips5 stars

  2. I doubled the recipe for a BBQ and I only added 1 packet of ranch and it was perfect. I figure having with tortilla chips would make it too salty.5 stars

  3. made for a “get together” at a school between employees…this was the main hit to the point everyone wanted recipe. I used a little more bacon than recipe called for. It was delicious cold, next time I’ll try it warm(making a second batch within next week for NBA playoffs).5 stars

  4. I really don’t understand the “too salty” comments”. I’ve made this recipe dozens of times and it is always great. My personal preference is for a spicier dip so I typically add diced hot pickled jalapenos as well. Also, I use a spicy cheddar cheese if I have it on hand. Very good recipe that everyone seems to enjoy!5 stars

  5. Wonderful dip! I used a half packet of the Ranch dressing mix and it was perfect. It was good cold, but we really loved the heated version. Making this again for our Easter family gathering.

      1. I would bake this dip in a 400°F oven for 20 minutes or until hot and bubbly. If you try it I would love to hear how it turns out Meagan!

  6. I made for a house party and at first, the dip got moderate attention. Then I saw later on that night, 2 guys standing over the dip and eating it like men possessed. Like straight from the food warmer and scraped the bottom clean. 5 stars

    1. We haven’t tried freezing this dip but it should be fine, Mike. Just store in an airtight container and when ready to serve, let thaw in the refrigerator overnight and refresh the flavors before serving. You could leave out the green onions until ready to serve to ensure they still have a nice crunch to them.

  7. My son-in-law was over the moon happy with this dip! I have to admit, it’s pretty darned good! Very easy and a big hit!5 stars

    1. Sorry to hear it was too salty for you, Sara. Usually our readers love this dip! You could always try low sodium ingredients if you prefer.

    1. Hi Lauren, I have only tried making this recipe as written but I think whipped cream cheese would work. Let us know how it turns out for you!

  8. Excellent recipe. The dip was easy to make & I love that it can be served warm or cold.
Took it to a big party and it was amazing5 stars

    1. A packet is about 2 tablespoons. I recommend starting with 1 tablespoon, tasting it, and adding more to your liking. If you try it I would love to hear how it turns out Loralee!

  9. I made this with1/2 packet of the ranch dressing mix & served it hot in my small slow cooker. I used garlic sour dough bread brushed with olive oil & oven toasted for dipping. It was delicious & everyone loved it!! Great recipe!! Thanks!!
