A Party Dip in Minutes

This is a little bit of a simpler and quicker version of a 7 layer dip and it’s well loved by everyone.

Taco Dip Ingredients

The creamy layer of this taco dip recipe is a mixture of cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning (option: add in a tablespoon of lime juice). Use homemade seasoning or a store-bought packet. Substitute Greek yogurt for the sour cream if you’d like.

The taco dip toppings can be anything and everything you put on your usual ground beef tacos.

Try shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, green or red onions, cilantro, black olives, pico de Gallo, jalapenos, black beans, or avocado or dollops of guacamole.

Serve taco dip with tortilla chips, baked tortillas, pita bread, crackers, or even fresh vegetables!

DIP TIP:  We love to use a hand mixer for any dip with cream cheese. This adds air to the mixture and makes it fluffier and easier to scoop so your chips don’t break when you dip!

How to Make Taco Dip

  1. Mix the Base – Mix softened cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning with a hand mixer per the recipe below.
  2. Chill – Spread into a small dish or a pie plate and chill.

You can even change up this no meat taco dip by adding lean ground beef taco meat on top of the creamy layer.

Pro Dip Tips

  • Soften cream cheese before blending (this can be done in the microwave at 60% power for about 40 seconds or until soft).
  • Make up to 2 days ahead and chill. Top just before serving.
  • Low fat or reduced-fat products do work well in this recipe.
  • Make individual servings in mini bowls or cups (with a spoon if needed).
  • To make sure the cream cheese is perfectly dippable and scoopable beat the cream cheese with a mixer until light and fluffy.

A hand mixer works perfectly with both cold dips (like Bacon Cheddar Dip) or hot dips like our favorite Jalapeno Popper Dip.

  1. Made this for my Spanish class as a last minute project, I’m incredibly inexperienced so it took me far longer than five minutes but when I finished and added a lot of cheese the dip was truly busting5 stars

  2. Okay, so I made the taco dip as the recipe directed. I thought it was too thin with that much sour cream in it. However, I used the 1/3 less fat Philadelphia cream cheese because the store was out of the original style. So, I won’t ever use the low fat one again for this. I think the low fat kind is not a good choice. It tasted good, it was just too thin.

    1. Oh no, sorry that happened, Connie! The regular cream cheese does have a higher fat content so helps to give it that yummy thickness to the dip. If you try this recipe again I would definitely recommend using regular cream cheese.

  3. Fabulous and classic! We also add a layer of taco sauce onto the creamy part before the lettuce and cheese. So good!

  4. Really, really good as written! As a good south Texas lady, I suggest adding a layer of good-quality refried beans on the bottom. Beans are mandatory in Texas! :)5 stars

  5. If I want to add refried beans to this dip would I put it on top of of cream cheese mix, or under, or just leave it out?
