This Parmesan Broiled Tilapia is so easy and delicious, making it one of my absolute favorite tilapia recipes!  With just a few minutes to prep and this whole dish is on the table in 10 minutes start to finish!

Serve this easy dish with a squeeze of fresh lemon or Dill Pickle Tartar Sauceroasted broccoli and a side salad for the perfect meal.

What is Tilapia?

Tilapia is a white fish that was traditionally found in Africa, but is now farmed in many countries including domestically. It is an excellent source of protein and a good source of vitamins and minerals. So not only is it good for you, but the fact that it is delicious is just a bonus!

While this recipe calls for tilapia, any white fish can easily be substituted with excellent results!

How to Cook Tilapia

You’ll be amazed at how easy (and quick) most tilapia recipes are. Like most fish, it is important that you do not overcook your tilapia fillets as they can dry out. You can cook tilapia in the oven or it can be poached, fried, or broiled.

In this recipe, I have chosen to broil it. I love how quick it is but also that this tilapia recipe creates a very moist flaky fish with a beautifully browned parmesan crust!

How Long to Cook Tilapia in the Oven

While you can easily make oven baked tilapia, I do love broiling it to make it really fast.  Broiled on high, this tilapia recipe only takes 3-4 minutes per side, depending of course on the size of the fillet. If the fish fillet is quite large you will need to increase broil time by a minute each side.

Baking tilapia is as easy as broiling is but will not produce an outer crust as browned and delicious. For this reason I prefer to broil the tilapia in this recipe.

Parmesan Broiled Tilapia is a great start to any meal in under 15 minutes. We serve it with Green Beans with Bacon and a side of Garlic Butter Rice for the perfect meal! Risotto, pasta and of course classic french fries are all great sides for this fresh and crusty entree! While it makes a quick meal during the week, this recipe is definitely one you will want to serve when you have guests over. It will be a favorite for sure!

    1. The recipe does call for pepper to taste. Parmesan cheese is salty, so I don’t add additional salt. Feel free to add them to your taste Hector.

  1. I love how simple, light and flavorful this is, I too used Hellmans/Best Foods light mayo. My family loved it! Definitely being added to my favorites.5 stars

  2. I am not good with broiling. I set the broil to high and moved the rack up. Broiled 3 min on one side. Good. Flip. Slather with yummy. Broil 3-4 more minutes. No. The pan caught fire and overheated my oven to the point I had to unplug it. Put the fire out. Opened the windows and sat down to the best tasting tilapia I’ve ever had. My picky eater even finished it. Please help me figure out how to make this without the flames. 4 stars

    1. Glad you loved the recipe Rebecca! Maybe try moving your rack down next time? Or perhaps you have a lower broil temperature available.

    2. If you have an electric oven, do you leave your oven door slightly open when broiling? That is recommended. I have this recipe from an old Junior League cookbook. Has been our favorite for years! On the menu tonight!5 stars

  3. Absolutely loved this! I did add some homemade breadcrumbs to it which turned out great! Love how quick and easy this was. Will definitely be making again and again!5 stars

  4. Wow, was this recipe amazing.  I didn’t change a thing except I doubled the topping because my tilapia was big.  My husband wants this again for dinner tomorrow.  I made steamed broccoli and cauliflower to go with it.  Very keto / LCHF diabetic friendly recipe.  I will be making this a lot.  5 stars

  5. Hi Holly,

Thanks for this recipe! I’m planning to make it tomorrow night for dinner. What sort of side dish do you recommend to serve with it? I’d like a healthy side dish.

  6. Admittedly I tweaked this based on what I had and because I like kicked up flavor–but used the recipe and proportions as a guide and it turned out great! Fwiw, I sprinkled S & P on the fish after I turned it over and before I added the parm mixture. I did not have dill so I used parsley and also added 1/4 tsp. each of the following: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and Italian seasoning. Also used a combo of low fat mayo and low fat ranch dressing for that component. Next time I would add some cayenne too. Flavors were still pretty subtle even with these changes, but subtle in a really nice way. I also sprayed the foil with nonstick spray before putting the fish on it. Definitely a keeper!5 stars

  7. I’ve never commented before on a recipe any where but felt this was definitely worthy.  Love love love it! Will be a recipe I make for company too.  Thank you for sharing!!
I doubled the ingredients but not the fish.  5 stars

  8. This is AMAZING! And, I am not a fish fan…like at all! I have tried to like fish for years, and I can not stand the stuff. Today I gave this recipe a shot, and holy cow, I went back for seconds! SO GOOD!!! I will be making this again, and it will be soon!
I should say, I did add some garlic powder to the Parmesan cheese mixture.

    1. I am so glad that you liked the recipe! I think that sounds like a delicious addition, I might have to add a little garlic to it next time I make it!

  9. I do not ever eat Tilapia but this recipe is delicious with Scrod or Haddock… quick and easy supper.. add a green salad and nice white wine and a small dessert…Voila

  10. I have actually found that it works out better if you add 1/4th of a cup of Garlic Bread Crumbs to the mixture that not only does it add a bit of crunch and taste it also will actually keep all of the topping on the fish all the way through broiling the mixture side up. I have made it both ways a number of times for friends and family and they all thought it was better with the bread crumbs. I also add a good sprinkle of Old Bay to both sides of the fish and that really punches the flavor up quite a bit. Just my 2 cents worth.

  11. This fish was great! Used parsley instead of dill because that is what I had on hand. I also seasoned the fish with salt and pepper before broiling. My husband and 1 year old loved it!
