Jalapeno Grilled Cheese Ingredients
This jalapeƱo popper grilled cheese sandwich recipe uses a delicious combination of of flavors similar to those found in my famous Jalapeno Popper Dip!
Smooth cream cheese with shredded parmesan and sharp cheddar, pickled jalapeƱo peppers and thick slices of sourdough bread.
- Cheese:Ā You can substitute or add in any other cheeses you like. Grated asiago, romano, and/or pepper jack are good options. You want something with a robust flavor to stand out among the cream cheese.
- Bread:Ā The bread you choose is another area you can play around with. For the best texture look for a crusty, substantial bread that holds its’ shape when thickly sliced.
- Flavor Boost: To boost the flavor of this jalapeƱo popper grilled cheese even more, turn up the flavor even by adding a layer of crispy bacon or sliced ham.
How to Make a Grilled Cheese Sandwich
For this recipe all you need is a frying pan and a spatula. It’s as easy as 1,2,3Ā to prep and cook the best grilled cheese jalapeƱo popper sandwich youāve ever tasted:
- Spread one side of each slice of bread with mayonnaise (or butter if you’d prefer but mayonnaise definitely gives the best crust).
- Place the jalapeƱo filling between two slices, on the plain sides.
- Grill until toasted brown on one side, then flip and repeat on the other.
Cut diagonally from end to end and serve warm and melty (with a cold beer if you like).
What Goes Good With Grilled Cheese?
JalapeƱo popper grilled cheese sandwiches are rich and filling, so serve them with sides that are fresh and crisp. Skip the salty or oily chips, instead, think a classic Tomato Soup (of course)!!
Fresh Summer Fruit Salad or crisp tossed salad. Or, for a pop of color and nutrition, simply serve with fresh crispy veggies and dip (ranch or blue cheese are my faves).

this was a fabulous recipe, hit all the notes-gooey, salty, acidic, spicy… made it twice in 2 days! I was surprised at how well the cream cheese kept its firm (I used whipped).
Soooo goood! We dipped our sandwiches in sweet chili sauce. A plum sauce would be good to, sweet and hot go so good together!!
Yummy, that would be delicious. Thanks for sharing, Pat!
Never would’ve occurred to me to combine these ingredients on a grilled cheese sandwich. Fantastic! Felt like I was in a nice restaurant for lunch :)
So glad you loved the sandwich Jackie!
I used to get this sandwich from a restaurant that was by my old job, haven’t had it in years but I’ve been craving it. The place charges like $8 for a sandwich so I said forget that and bought the ingredients for this recipe for the same price and fed myself plus my kids! We loved it by the way.
So glad you loved it JoAnn!
Curious: do you use raw jalapeƱos or jarred ones in brine? I never eat them but my hubby would love it if I made and I wanna get it right…
Either one would work, Carrie, but the jarred jalapenos are usually a bit milder if that’s what he would prefer!
Oh my gosh, this was amazing! We dipped in ranch, and probably put in too many jalapeƱos, but we like it hot!
My husband and I LOOOOVED this sandwich! I served it with tomato soup and have made it several times. Thanks Holly!
You’re welcome! We love this one too!
Thanks Veena, I hope you love it if you get a chance to try it!
