2 Ingredient Apple Pie Dumplings collage with the pan of dumplings and some on the plate

Apple Pie Dumplings made with just two easy ingredients!  Simply add them to a baking dish and cook until tender and lightly browned.  Serve these dumplings warm out of the oven with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of heavy cream.

Apple Pie Dumplings on a plate

This has to be the easiest dessert EVER, you’re just two ingredients away from an amazing dessert!  My 10 year old probably would’ve eaten the whole recipe had I let her (trust me, she asked)!

When purchasing canned apple pie filling, I highly recommend buying a good quality brand.  It may cost a few pennies extra, but this is the one place I think it’s worth it!  I’ve found most store brand pie fillings taste pretty close the the name brands…  except apple. The store brand apple pie fillings never seem to taste the same to me!

If you prefer, you can certainly use a quick homemade apple pie filling which only takes a few minutes to make! While this recipe calls for just one can of filling, adding two works great if you like more apples in your dessert (and increases the servings from 4 to 6).

Because our store doesn’t carry the apple pie filling with cinnamon, I like to add a dash of cinnamon.  Of course this takes the recipe from  2 ingredients to 3 but it also adds a lot of extra flavor! Feel free to get creative and toss in some pecans, walnuts, raisins, coconut or whatever you happen to have on hand!

You’ll want to ensure your apple/crescent mixture is spread out in a dish (mine was 2qt.).  After 15  minutes I flip the crescents over, you don’t have to but it gives a more even cook and makes sure everything is all spread out.

I personally top mine with ice cream (or whipped cream if it’s all I have on hand) but my husband LOVES to top his with heavy cream and a drizzle of caramel.

This recipe has been one of my top and most loved recipes forever!  I’ve made this countless times, always with great results. It’s amazing that combining Apple Pie filling and crescent rolls can create such a delicious dessert!

Find quick and easy stove top homemade apple pie filling recipe here!  This easy recipe is made on the stove top and makes the equivalent of one store bought can of pie filling!

Note:  The baking time on this recipe can vary.  Mine always takes 25 minutes but depending on the dish you use, you may need to add a few minutes to your bake time.  Be sure that your dough is on top of the apples and somewhat spread out.  This will also work with rolls of biscuit dough.

  1. I make Apple Dumplings using fresh apples and crescent rolls, 1 can of sprite, 1 cup of sugar, 1 stick of butter. Mix sprite, sugar and butter in a sauce pan and heat on stove until sugar dissolves and butter melts. Cut 2 apples in quarters. Separate crescent rolls and wrap each piece of apple with a crescent roll. Place in baking dish and pour sprite mixture over the apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. May use fresh peaches also.

  2. I used two cans of pie filling and a 13 x 9 x 2 pan. Then topped with Canned Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls (2 cans) It took a little longer to cook but was great! Then topped with sweet icing when almost cool.

  3. Delicious, fast and easy, thanks for posting! I had to cook it longer. Next time I will make sure the oven is preheated, I suspect it was not yet 375 when I put the dish in the oven. I will also try heating the pie filling as suggested by a commenter. I used sugar free apple pie filling and Pillsbury crescent rolls and wish I had vanilla ice cream on hand.

  4. I was looking for a quick and simple dessert for Thanksgiving dinner. (I’m kinda not feeling making pound cakes from scratch this year.) I happened across this recipe and have just put my second batch in two days in the oven. The first batch was inhaled in hours.

    Thanks for sharing.

  5. I might try this over the weekend with my friend and her kids. I’ll get some French vanilla ice cream to go along with it. I like the idea that Brittney brought up of trying it with cinnamon roll dough but for the first time out I’ll stick with the recipe. I try to find some quick and easy treats to make with them and this fits the bill perfectly. Thanks you very much for this. :)

    1. Hello Icancount. One ingredient is optional, only two ingredients are required to make this recipe. Hope that helps.

  6. Don’t pay attention to the negative people. Just keep on with what you’re doing with your head held high. You’re doing a great job.

  7. Thanks for the recipe, this was so easy and so yummy!! I finally found a good use for that can of apple pie filling :)

    1. The cinnamon is optional. Are you using store brand crescents? Readers have mentioned that the Walmart brand is quite salty.

  8. It honestly drives me nuts when it’s written “only 2 ingredients”. It’s not! A roll of crescent dough has a ton ridiculous ingredients. This is not a recipe. It’s a hack for an apple pie – lets just call it that??!

    1. Really? When was the last time you saw a recipe that uses prepared items/products, list every ingredient in the products? You are ridiculous!
