Apple Pie Dumplings made with just two easy ingredients! Simply add them to a baking dish and cook until tender and lightly browned. Serve these dumplings warm out of the oven with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of heavy cream.

This has to be the easiest dessert EVER, you’re just two ingredients away from an amazing dessert! My 10 year old probably would’ve eaten the whole recipe had I let her (trust me, she asked)!
When purchasing canned apple pie filling, I highly recommend buying a good quality brand. It may cost a few pennies extra, but this is the one place I think it’s worth it! I’ve found most store brand pie fillings taste pretty close the the name brands… except apple. The store brand apple pie fillings never seem to taste the same to me!
If you prefer, you can certainly use a quick homemade apple pie filling which only takes a few minutes to make! While this recipe calls for just one can of filling, adding two works great if you like more apples in your dessert (and increases the servings from 4 to 6).

Because our store doesn’t carry the apple pie filling with cinnamon, I like to add a dash of cinnamon. Of course this takes the recipe from 2 ingredients to 3 but it also adds a lot of extra flavor! Feel free to get creative and toss in some pecans, walnuts, raisins, coconut or whatever you happen to have on hand!
You’ll want to ensure your apple/crescent mixture is spread out in a dish (mine was 2qt.). After 15 minutes I flip the crescents over, you don’t have to but it gives a more even cook and makes sure everything is all spread out.
I personally top mine with ice cream (or whipped cream if it’s all I have on hand) but my husband LOVES to top his with heavy cream and a drizzle of caramel.

This recipe has been one of my top and most loved recipes forever! I’ve made this countless times, always with great results. It’s amazing that combining Apple Pie filling and crescent rolls can create such a delicious dessert!
Find quick and easy stove top homemade apple pie filling recipe here! This easy recipe is made on the stove top and makes the equivalent of one store bought can of pie filling!
Note: The baking time on this recipe can vary. Mine always takes 25 minutes but depending on the dish you use, you may need to add a few minutes to your bake time. Be sure that your dough is on top of the apples and somewhat spread out. This will also work with rolls of biscuit dough.

if you are having trouble getting the rolls done, try heating the filling before you put the rolls on top. You can do this in the microwave. It will help tremendously.
For those of you that insist on adding extra ingredients or just complaining about the recipe, try to remember this is just a 2 ingredient recipe you can make in no time. It’s just a fun and easy recipe to try. If you like it fine if not throw away the recipe. Nobody made any guaranties. So come on guys it’s just a 2 ingredient recipe, have fun!!
I tried this recipe tonight and it was soo delicious!! I will definitely be making again!! Thanks for this amazing recipe
So glad you loved it Tiffany! :)
Can you use buttermilk bisquits instead of crescent ? What’s the differencce?
Yes you can.
I didnt understand when the recipe says mix all together then put into a pan and make sure the cresents are on top of the apples. .. Do I mix together and then put the apples down first then top it with the cresents? Then flip after 15 minutes?
When pouring it into the baking dish I just try to make sure the dough is on top. You mix it together so the dough gets coated in the apple filling but they cook better if they are on top in the dish.
I finally tried this recipe and it was wonderful.
Tried it was easy to make and taste great!!!
I saw this a while back n I keep meaning to make it but I keep forgeting, went to the pantry doubleckecked on that pie filling and definitely making it later tonight with dinner, I’m sure both my little girl n husband will love it!
I made this last night it was quick and simple and easy to make, and it was to my surprise very delicious so delicious that when I came back this morning to have a little for breakfast my son who is home from college eat it all. He said it was very good so I have to make more because my 9 year old did not get to taste it because she likes things fresh out of the oven she doesn’t like to microwave anything.
Thank you sooo much for posting this recipe on Facebook.
I’m so glad you and your family enjoyed it Veronica! Thanks for stopping by! :)
To help with cooking the rolls, heat the pie filling first before placing the cut rolls on top. I have noticed that fillings need to be hot when placing them into unbaked pie crust.
Has anyone tried rolling some filling up in the crescent rolls and baking them so they’d be more like turnovers? I’m thinking a little butter and cinnamon on top would keep them from browning too much.
Has anyone thought of making these with a can of cinnamon rolls instead of cressent rolls? Just a thought.
I have done it — it is AWESOME!! just don’t use the icing — I cut them in 1/4s and smooshed them before rolling
I had the same issue the dough would just not cook not matter what I did. It got to the point where I had to scoop the dough out and pitch it because the rest of the dish was drying out from bring cooked so long.
I’m going to have to play with the recipe and see why that’s happening to a few of you! Most people have no problem but there are a few that it doesn’t cook through. Are you using Pillsbury brand?
Ok so I JUST made this and it was soooooooo delicious!!!!! I kept it in the over for 20 minutes or until the rolls were golden brown. I then took out of the oven and turned the rolls over as they were a little gooey. So I baked for an additional 10 minutes. I did add a little bit of powdered sugar/ milk mixture on the top while still hot and OMG…. FREAKING AWESOME! Another thing I added that I thought would be good was chopped pecans! Wonderful recipe! I thought I’d screw it up based on some reviews, but I didn’t! Yay me!!!
Btw
Husband approved!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Pecans would be a delicious addition, thank you for sharing!!
I don’t get it. Why did only one other person have my experience? I read through all the reviews before I made this. Only one negative one. I got up this morning at 6:30 and started making this for a work function. It’s an hour and half later and it’s still not done! I put the croissants on top of the filling because I was afraid they wouldn’t get done. After 25 minutes of baking at 375, I pulled it out of the oven. The top of the croissants were done but the inside and bottom was all mushy. Not near done. Flipped the croissants over and put it back in for another 25. Still not done! Did what I should have done in the first place and took a scissors and chopped them into little pieces. 10 more min in the oven. Kinda done. Shoved them back in and now I’m waiting another ten minutes. Honestly, I love the idea of this recipe. But I’m really disappointed.
I could easily have done something wrong. But there are like, 3 steps to this recipe so I’m not sure what happened. Possibly my oven is way off. But I haven’t noticed that when I bake other things.
I’m taking them for my co-workers, most of whom have an Amish background and have been baking since they were in diapers. If they enjoy it, then it was all worth it. Here’s hoping they don’t shun me for this dish lol.
I hope I didn’t offend anyone. Just sharing my experience.
I can’t say for sure why you had trouble; mine definitely cooked in 25 minutes (I used Pillsbury, not store brand) and placed the casserole dish on the middle rack of the oven. Because it is sitting on the pie filling, the bottom of the crescents will definitely be a little bit softer/wet. There have been a couple of readers who also said that their crescents didn’t cook through in 25 minutes but I’m not sure why. I understand why you feel disappointed that it took much longer than expected (an hour and a half to cook store bought crescents is a very long time!!) Hopefully when all was said and done, the end result was delicious.
Looks so good
If you want healthier version, see if you can find Immaculate Baking Co. crescent rolls…usually at Whole Foods but now I even see them at the regular store..yay!
I’m wondering if you couldn’t take the big canned biscuits and cut into 4th and make this recipe…even add some nuts and cook in a loaf pan.
I’m sure that would work. This recipe pretty easily adapted!
Try adding 1/4 tsp nutmeg to the recipe. Every time I use a canned pie filling I add cinnamon nad nutmeg to it. Turns out great.
Has anyone baked in advance and warmed before serving? If so, how is it?
