Summertime and grillin’ are super easy (and delicious) with this recipe for juicy grilled chicken thighs!
Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are tossed in a simple yet delicious marinade making them extra juicy and yummy.
Best of all, most of the ingredients are probably already on hand. Simply mix, marinate, and grill!
Perfectly Grilled Chicken Thighs
- Chicken thighs are extra juicy cooked on the grill.
- Adding a chicken marinade makes them extra tender and adds tons of flavor.
- It takes just minutes to prep the marinade and then only about 10-15 minutes to grill (of course time for marinating in between too). Easy peasy!
- Grill chicken thighs on a gas or charcoal grill.
Ingredients
Chicken – This recipe uses boneless skinless thighs, but bone-in/skin-on thighs will work great too! (If using bone-in chicken, the cook time and method will change, I would suggest following the method in my bbq chicken recipe).
Marinade – Simple ingredients like vinegar, mustard, and soy sauce make up the base for the marinade.
As long as you have oil, sweetness, acid, and a bit of bold flavor, ingredients can easily be substituted. Switch it up by using ketchup, lemon or lime juice, paprika, garlic cloves, or even Italian dressing! Make a signature marinade and sauce!
How to Grill Chicken Thighs
This marinade comes together in a snap:
- Whisk marinade ingredients in a bowl or shake them up in a zippered bag.
- Add chicken and marinate in the refrigerator up to 4 hours, but at least 30 minutes.
- Grill the thighs over direct heat for about 5 to 7 minutes on each side (per the recipe below).
Serve with grilled veggies, grilled corn, and potato salad. Even garlic bread can be cooked on the grill!
How to Store Leftovers
- This chicken thighs recipe makes great leftovers. Tuck them into a wrap or even on a bun or over a salad.
- Keep grilled chicken thighs in a zippered bag or airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days.
- To reheat, just microwave for a minute or two or reheat in the air fryer with a bit of bbq sauce.

Super easy and fast. Thanks for a great recipe.
Glad to hear, April! We love this recipe too!
Really delicious and an easy marinade. I used bone-in and skin-on thighs over high heat coals. I did two minutes on each side and then flipped. Then do that again -total of four min each side to sear thighs. Be careful not to burn them. Then move thighs to indirect heat for 30 min. Baste thighs anywhere in cooking process with remaining marinade. Check for doneness and serve.
That sounds delicious, Carl! Thanks for sharing your cooking method with us.
I made it at home according to your instruction. An easy, simple, and tasty recipe, many thanks
So happy you enjoyed it, Hallie!
What can be substituted for lemon pepper seasoning?
Thanks, looking forward to making this soon!
Hi Maria, you can try this homemade lemon pepper seasoning or for a completely different flavor try adding in your favorite bold spices.
Delish & made double… great leftover & even used some cut up in burritos with mango salsa. Will make again & again.
Decided to ty it on chicken wings instead, only because I had thawed some wings already.
Marinated all day and the put on the grill for supper. They were delicious and will be made again
Thanks
Oooh, that sounds delicious Sharon! Thanks for sharing.
This was SO DELICIOUS!!! I marinated the chicken thighs overnight and cooked them in the air fryer (I don’t have an outdoor grill and didn’t want to deal with stovetop splatter), and they turned out perfectly browned with the charred edges. So good! This recipe has been saved to my “Recipes to Keep” bookmark which currently number about a handful from all the different cooking websites I’ve been trying. Thank you very much for a marinade that I’ll use again and again!
I made this marinade this evening. I finally found the perfect chicken marinade. Delicious!
Followed marinade recipe exactly and am really happy with the finished product! Thank you!
You’re welcome Donna, so glad to hear that!
Oh my gosh, Holly, we made these chicken thighs tonight on the grill and they were AAAAMAZING! Thank you so much for the recipe! ❤️
You’re welcome Hannah, so happy they turned out so well for you!
Used this on some flat iron steaks I bbq’d for dinner and they turned out great! Thx
You’re welcome, sounds great Linda!
This was amazing! Will definitely be in the summer grilling rotation!
These were amazing ! Only had about half hour to marinate, then on the grill to sear the outsides a bit, then turned off the flame below the chicken, but left the other flames on, and let them ‘bake’ in the BBQ. So tender and moist !
Delicious marinade! Will defend use this recipe again.
This will now be my go to marinade for chicken. I often struggle to come up with something quick and easy that isn’t a casserole. It was delicious! I did use a balsamic glaze instead of balsamic vinegar only because I could not find my vinegar or I’m out. Thanks for the recipe!
I didn’t have lemon pepper seasoning so I used a lemon balsamic vinegar that I had. I grilled them in my new Ninja grill for 13 minutes, turned half-way thru. Delicious!!
Thanks for your recipes, I always have the Ingredients in stock:)
Excellent!! Chicken was very juicy, even heating up the next day!! LOVED the flavor :-)
hello mem ,
I like this dish recipe…..
I made this marinade for our chicken tonight! So great! I didn’t have lemon pepper, but I did have Trader Joe’s 21 seasoning Blend, I subbed that. We will for sure make this marinade again.
