This salmon seasoning recipe is the perfect blend of herbs and spices. It’s great on any cut of salmon and can be cooked on the stovetop, oven, or grill.

How to Season Salmon
This seasoning mix is easy to prepare and can be sprinkled on all kinds of seafood from salmon (of course!) to shrimp.
- Pat the salmon dry and rub with a little oil for better browning and to help the seasonings stick.
- Season salmon right before cooking so the salt doesn’t begin to break down the flesh too soon.
- Cook the salmon on the grill, in the oven, or in an air fryer.
- Be sure to let it rest before serving.
Finish it with a squeeze of lemon if you’d like!
How to Cook Salmon
The shape and thickness of your salmon filet will determine how long it needs to cook. A thicker filet will need longer, while a thinner and flatter filet will need less time. Check your salmon early to ensure it doesn’t overcook.
Salmon should be slightly translucent in the center and flake easily with a fork. Like many types of meat, once it is removed from its heat source, it will continue to cook internally as the outside cools and seals in the juices.

How many salmon filet can this rub serve ?
Depending on how much seasoning you want to use on a filet it should be enough for 12.
I love this seasoning blend! I double the recipe to have enough for more salmon. This blend has made me enjoy eating salmon again! I add the brown sugar since I like the spicy and sweetness.
Excellent and I had all ingredients on hand.
Excellent and all the spices were in my cabinet.
This was so good! We will definitely use it again.
So glad you enjoyed it, Sara!
I am both physically and mentally obsessed with this salmon seasoning. I would have never thought paprika and salmon together, but I absolutely LOVE it!
loved your salmon rub. will def use again Thank you & Happy New Year
So glad you loved it, Tami! Thanks for leaving a comment
I have varied the ingredients slightly. I don’t add salt or the regular paprika. For the lemon zest and black pepper, I use lemon pepper seasoning. So mine is 1 tsp each of smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, an lemon pepper.
Can I use this seasoning for my salmon in the air fryer?
Absolutely Sheron! Enjoy!
Magnificent!
Absolutely delicious! My husband and I both loved it. I was in a hurry to get dinner on the table, so I didn’t read the recipe closely enough to see that it would serve 12. I used over half of the entire recipe on TWO serving size skinless filets, coating them on both sides and then quickly frying them at about 400 on the stove top until just done. Even using way more than needed, the flavor was perfect…not bitter or overpowering. The finished fish was beautifully colored and crisped on the outside and juicy in the middle. It’s my new go-to seasoning for salmon and I’m going to try it on ling cod next. Thank you!!
So happy to hear that! Glad they still turned out perfect even with a little extra spice.
Very good – thanks! TerryF
You are very welcome, Terry!
We did the salmon seasoning and left out the smoked parika & lemon zest … we did go with the sweet recipe by adding 1 1/2 teaspoons of brown sugar. It was the best FISH we’ve ever had.
So glad you loved it!
This recipe is delicious! I will be using this from here on! My only critique is that it is a teeny bit salty, I will will use half next time. Yum!! Go make it!
This was delicious. The seasoning recipe is awesome. A lemony light spices taste. I did not have smoked paprika, so I substituted a mojo blend seasoning and a tsp of hot sauce.
This seasoning made my salmon the best I’ve ever eaten. I added the brown sugar as suggested and air fried. Superb!
So glad you enjoyed it, Kalah!
Excellent! My family of 5 devoured it!
So happy to hear that C.Q. :)
My husband used this in our grilled salmon tonight and it was delightful! Next time I’ll try your brown sugar option, broiled.
So glad to hear it Christina!
