Cheeseburger Pie is an easy recipe that my whole family loves!
Lean ground beef and onions are combined with our favorite bacon cheeseburger toppings and spread into a flaky crust. I add my favorite cheesy topping and bake until golden.
The results are an easy pie that is reminiscent of your favorite summer bbq meal!
How to Make Cheeseburger Pie
When summer arrives we’re always firing up the grill to make our favorite Jalapeño Cheddar Burgers serving them up with big bowls of Dill Pickle Pasta Salad!
Truly fewer things better than a great hamburger… except a bacon cheeseburger! This easy Cheeseburger Pie combines those same great flavors in a simple pie recipe.
Combining our fave flavors in an easy to make weeknight recipe is the best… loads of bacon, gooey cheese and lean beef packed into one casserole that everyone will rave about!
I like to keep this simple and quick so I pour the filling for this cheeseburger pie into a store bought pie crust (not deep dish). If you have a homemade pie crust recipe you love, you can definitely use it in this recipe or get creative and make a crust with crescent rolls or even a Cheeseburger pie with a bisquick crust!
If you’re looking to keep this lower in carbs, you can skip the crust altogether… honestly this recipe is so versatile the options are endless!
I use lean ground beef in this recipe but you can certainly sub it for ground chicken or turkey if you prefer.
Once baked and bubbly, I let this hamburger pie cool for about 10 minutes and slice and serve. I sometimes put out a fun plate of toppings for everyone to add to their serving… chopped dill pickles, sliced red onion and diced tomatoes to name a few. We serve this with some Crispy Oven Fries and veggies and Ranch Dressing Dip for the perfect meal.

Why can’t I print this recipe?
Oh no! We have not had that problem with the printing Jimi so I can’t say for sure what is happening.
Made this twice and added diced up pickles as well. So good, whole family loves it. A definite keeper!
Can this bacon cheeseburger pie be frozen?
Hi Melanee, I have never tried freezing this recipe but it should be fine frozen and reheated.
So many good recipes and so east to make
I want to try all your recipes, they look delish.
The photos seem to show pickles inside and one commenter even said that the pickles are a must. Yet I don’t see pickles anywhere in the recipe. Am I missing them somewhere?
There are no pickles in the photo, they might be onions that you’re seeing. Either way, pickles would be awesome in this recipe! I sometimes put out a fun plate of toppings for everyone to add to their serving… chopped dill pickles, sliced red onion, and diced tomatoes to name a few.
Delicious! A keeper! Only things I did different was to cook the bacon and onions first because my family likes these cooked very well, then added ground beef to brown, then drained off any grease. Used just 1 tablespoon of bbq sauce (again family preference) and 3 tablespoons ketchup. Everything else exactly the same! A new family favorite!
Easy to make and the taste is fantastic! My son asked to take the leftovers home….that never happens!! The pickles are a must. The hot pie with crisp cold dill pickles yum yum! Thank you for sharing this!
Delicious
Can you use phyllo dough instead of pie crusts?
I’ve only tried the recipe as written Janice. Other readers have successfully used crescent roll dough though. Let us know how it works if you try it!
Do you cook the pie crust first before filling?? Also do you do a bottom and top crust??
Hi Kelly, the pie shell is uncooked when we fill it. Also, we only use a bottom pie crust, the top crust is that yummy melted cheese!
I have been using this recipe for a while now. My family (all males) LOVE it. The first time I followed the directions exactly, but found it slightly sweet for my taste. Every since, I have left out the BBQ sauce and increased the ketchup to replace it, which is a little less sweet. I have also substituted Italian bread crumbs for the panko in a pinch with no complaints.
Holly, you have the BEST recipes! Thank you for your hard work and experimenting!
Thanks Sandy, so glad you are enjoying them!
So you don’t cook the premade pie crust before filling and cooking? Wouldn’t the crust get soggy and mushy, instead of being a firm crust? When I tried doing it without cooking the dough crust before it wasn’t very good.
Hi Robert, you could definitely try pre-cooking the crust but we found it wasn’t necessary for this recipe.
I made this using a premade pie crust that I just put into one of my pie pans. It made a beautiful flakey pie crust. The pie was delicious. I had trouble mixing 2 cups of cheese into 1/4 cup of milk. Second time I made it I just whisked milk and egg and purée over filling and then topped with the cheese. Have made it several times now and everyone enjoys it. Thanks for an easy delicious recipe.
Loved! Only thing was the bacon wasn’t getting fully cooked while in the same pot as the ground beef. Added both at once as recipe states. I thought it would finish up in the oven but it didn’t. Had to throw each slice of pie in the microwave until the bacon cooked. Not sure where I went wrong. ♀️
Strange Lisa, we have never had any issues with this recipe. Did you chop the bacon before cooking? You could always chop it smaller next time to let it cook quicker.
Going to make this tonight. I bought frozen pie crust … assuming I should thaw it first?
If your pie crust is frozen, I would let it defrost about 10-15 minutes before filling.
I’ve been making this for a few years now. The whole family loves this!
