Apple Pie Dumplings made with just two easy ingredients! Simply add them to a baking dish and cook until tender and lightly browned. Serve these dumplings warm out of the oven with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of heavy cream.
This has to be the easiest dessert EVER, you’re just two ingredients away from an amazing dessert! My 10 year old probably would’ve eaten the whole recipe had I let her (trust me, she asked)!
When purchasing canned apple pie filling, I highly recommend buying a good quality brand. It may cost a few pennies extra, but this is the one place I think it’s worth it! I’ve found most store brand pie fillings taste pretty close the the name brands… except apple. The store brand apple pie fillings never seem to taste the same to me!
If you prefer, you can certainly use a quick homemade apple pie filling which only takes a few minutes to make! While this recipe calls for just one can of filling, adding two works great if you like more apples in your dessert (and increases the servings from 4 to 6).
Because our store doesn’t carry the apple pie filling with cinnamon, I like to add a dash of cinnamon. Of course this takes the recipe from 2 ingredients to 3 but it also adds a lot of extra flavor! Feel free to get creative and toss in some pecans, walnuts, raisins, coconut or whatever you happen to have on hand!
You’ll want to ensure your apple/crescent mixture is spread out in a dish (mine was 2qt.). After 15 minutes I flip the crescents over, you don’t have to but it gives a more even cook and makes sure everything is all spread out.
I personally top mine with ice cream (or whipped cream if it’s all I have on hand) but my husband LOVES to top his with heavy cream and a drizzle of caramel.
This recipe has been one of my top and most loved recipes forever! I’ve made this countless times, always with great results. It’s amazing that combining Apple Pie filling and crescent rolls can create such a delicious dessert!
Find quick and easy stove top homemade apple pie filling recipe here! This easy recipe is made on the stove top and makes the equivalent of one store bought can of pie filling!
Note: The baking time on this recipe can vary. Mine always takes 25 minutes but depending on the dish you use, you may need to add a few minutes to your bake time. Be sure that your dough is on top of the apples and somewhat spread out. This will also work with rolls of biscuit dough.

How to do with fresh apples
Make and you’re set Kima!
So easy to make and tastes delicious! I used an apple pie filling that I made in the fall and froze. Served with vanilla bean ice cream and caramel to drizzle over everything, yum!
I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe Brittany. Homemade apple pie filling would be so good with these dumplings!
Can this be made in a crock pot?
I haven’t tried this recipe in the slow cooker.
Hi! This sounds great and I have crescents on hand. But I also have a pie crust (Pillsbury) I wanted to use up. I saw you said it’d be good with biscuits also. Have you tried it with pie crust?
I haven’t tried this with pie crust, let us know how it goes if you try it!
Well I went to mix this up and the pastry’s ended up as adhering back together and staying seperated
Is the video still available for this recipe? Can you post the link? Thank you!
The video has been added to the post! Take a peek Andrea.
It was good warm,,,,, haven’t yet tried it cold. The crescent rolls take a little longer then
it says.
Baking times can vary. I hope you liked them cold too!
cook for my wife on Sundays and tried this apple dumpling this Sunday. I did not have the recipe written down so just winged it from what I could remember. We loved it. She called her friends to brag about it. Next time (soon) I will add the nutmeg
I was considering making this for Thanksgiving, but am confused by the wording… This is what you wrote: “ensuring the crescent pieces are on top of the pie filling.” So, I am confused, because you stated to “mix” everything together in the previous step. Can you clarify?
Thanks!
Mix them together, but when putting it in the pan, place the crescent pieces on the top of the filling so they bake well.
I’m confused with directions. Do you put the pie filling and crescent squares in the same bowl and stir them all up at once? Why not just put the crescent pieces on top?
Yes you stir them all at once. The reason they’re stirred together is to coat all sides of the dumplings with the apple pie sauce.
I don’t mean to sound stupid, but for the 2 ingredient apple pie dumplings, do you cut each crescent roll into 12-14 pieces or does this mean 12-14 pieces for all of them. Thanks so much for your help.
12-14 pieces for the whole roll. There is a video just above the recipe. :) Enjoy!
Hi can anyone tell me if there is an alternative to crescent rolls here in Australia? I’ve been trying to find out for ages but no one can tell me. Thanks all. Rob
Puff pastry would be a great alternative, Rob!
Canned cinnamon rolls would be good.
I enjoy making some of these recipes that i find on here. They are quite delicious.
Glad to hear it! :)
I would really like to try this with blackberry pie filling.
That sounds amazing!
The recipes all look good and easy
