2 Ingredient Apple Pie Dumplings collage with the pan of dumplings and some on the plate

Apple Pie Dumplings made with just two easy ingredients!  Simply add them to a baking dish and cook until tender and lightly browned.  Serve these dumplings warm out of the oven with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of heavy cream.

Apple Pie Dumplings on a plate

This has to be the easiest dessert EVER, you’re just two ingredients away from an amazing dessert!  My 10 year old probably would’ve eaten the whole recipe had I let her (trust me, she asked)!

When purchasing canned apple pie filling, I highly recommend buying a good quality brand.  It may cost a few pennies extra, but this is the one place I think it’s worth it!  I’ve found most store brand pie fillings taste pretty close the the name brands…  except apple. The store brand apple pie fillings never seem to taste the same to me!

If you prefer, you can certainly use a quick homemade apple pie filling which only takes a few minutes to make! While this recipe calls for just one can of filling, adding two works great if you like more apples in your dessert (and increases the servings from 4 to 6).

Because our store doesn’t carry the apple pie filling with cinnamon, I like to add a dash of cinnamon.  Of course this takes the recipe from  2 ingredients to 3 but it also adds a lot of extra flavor! Feel free to get creative and toss in some pecans, walnuts, raisins, coconut or whatever you happen to have on hand!

You’ll want to ensure your apple/crescent mixture is spread out in a dish (mine was 2qt.).  After 15  minutes I flip the crescents over, you don’t have to but it gives a more even cook and makes sure everything is all spread out.

I personally top mine with ice cream (or whipped cream if it’s all I have on hand) but my husband LOVES to top his with heavy cream and a drizzle of caramel.

This recipe has been one of my top and most loved recipes forever!  I’ve made this countless times, always with great results. It’s amazing that combining Apple Pie filling and crescent rolls can create such a delicious dessert!

Find quick and easy stove top homemade apple pie filling recipe here!  This easy recipe is made on the stove top and makes the equivalent of one store bought can of pie filling!

Note:  The baking time on this recipe can vary.  Mine always takes 25 minutes but depending on the dish you use, you may need to add a few minutes to your bake time.  Be sure that your dough is on top of the apples and somewhat spread out.  This will also work with rolls of biscuit dough.

  5. Hi Holly,
Thank you so much for posting this recipe! Looks simple and delicious!
Two questions: which brand apple pie filling do you recommend? And which brand (and what sized can) do you recommend for the crescent rolls?
Thanks in advance for your time and help!
    Rosie

    1. Hi Rosie! Comstock is a great brand for pie filling (and available at Walmart). I always use Pillsbury crescent rolls and it’s an 8oz tube.

      Enjoy!! :) Holly

  7. I think this will be a great dish for my teenage grandchildren to do. I’m always looking for recipes for them to learn. It will be a treat for me to have them fix this. I’m also thinking using the cinnamon rolls would be fun for Thanksgiving or Christmas or a special occasion. Thanks for sharing! :-)

  8. These look absolutely yummy! Thank you for sharing.
I will be trying these this weekend! Joyce G. has a
great idea as well. I think I’ll try that one too! Such
great ideas here. I’m bookmarking your page here
    and following you on Pinterest!

  9. I made these over the weekend with reduced fat crescent rolls and no sugar added pie filling. They were great and the whole dish was still under 1000 calories!!! Just thought I would put it out there for those worried about too many calories.

  10. I LOVE finding recipes with minimal ingredients! This looks like the perfect dessert to enjoy on a fall evening. Pinning this!

  11. My mother-in-law used to make Apple Dumplings a lot way back when and have been looking for an easy way to make them, thank you so much

  12. I have done this using the tubed refrigerated cinnamon rolls! DELISH!
Sprinkle an extra brown sugar/cinnamon combo on top for extra sweetness.

    1. I haven’t done it that way but it sounds delicious! I would suggest adding the same ingredients to the peaches you would as if you were making a pie (cornstarch/flour etc) (so it doesn’t become too watery).

      1. You could use peach pie filling.. or like it, says, you would have to thicken the fresh peaches..

      2. I posted this to my sis in law’s page. Since my brother LOVES cherry pie, I suggested that she use canned cherry filling instead of the apple you suggested. :) Your apple would probably be my fav. though.

      3. Yum, made it today, using cherry pie filling, a handful of dried cherries, 1/2 t almond extract and the cinnamon….it is amazing! Thanks for sharing!

      4. I can’t wait to try this with cherry too and I love the idea of adding the almond extract! That would be delicious!!

  13. In a can of crescent rolls there are 8 triangles but they are four and each section so do you cut each section into 12 pieces

      1. Crescent rolls are small croissants. Pillsbury makes them. They are in the store by the canned biscuits. Hope this helps.

      2. Donna, I’m an Australian living in the US and I don’t know of a product to use as a substitute. I know when family visit me from Australia they have never seen anything like the Pilsbury products we have over here.

      3. im from Aussie too and ive looked this up before and
just use puff or short crust pastry would do the same Norrie

      4. Aussies…

Can you post the recipe for puff or short crust pastry??? I’m in the US but can’t use there pre-made items do to the colors they add to the product.

        Thanks in advance.

      5. Send me an Australian man lol. Ill cook some Alabama meal. I hear Australian men are good honest and faithful. Is it true. And the pie is delicious

      6. Whenever a cashier at a grocery store asks me if I found everything okay, I always say, I’m still looking for the aisle with the rich, good looking, straight men who will adore me.

      1. I am baking it as I type…… I added additional fresh sliced apple along with Irish butter, cinnamon and fresh grated nutmeg…..if the taste  is anything like the smell it will be heaven.  I also am baking it for 40 minutes.  Thank you sooooo much for this recipe!
