This ONE Minute Easy Chocolate Frosting recipe is likely the quickest frosting you’ve ever made!
It comes together so fast and sets like a dream making this a go-to quick frosting recipe. It’s perfect for topping cakes, brownies and more!
Life is busy you guys! But, I am a firm believer that we should not sacrifice amazing things, like dessert because of that! Instead of opting for something prepackaged, this frosting recipe is perfect for adding something sweet to any baked goods treat in just about one minute flat.

I almost always have a big jar of homemade brownie mix on hand and when I whip them up, this is my go to topping! In fact, I’ve made this recipe a million times and used it to top everything from homemade chocolate poke cake to zucchini brownies.
This frosting sets very quickly, and when I say it really comes together in a flash, I’m not joking… ONE minute!! I use semi-sweet chocolate in this recipe, if you prefer a darker fudgy chocolate frosting, feel free to use dark chocolate instead!

While this frosting is incredibly easy to make, please make sure that you have cake/brownies completely cooled and ready to go before pouring it onto your cake/brownies! If adding toppings like sprinkles/m&ms they must be added immediately or they will not adhere to the frosting. You can really dress this up with anything and everything including nuts, candies, and sprinkles.
Another great perk of this easy chocolate frosting is that the process of spreading couldn’t be easier! Simply tilt pan to “spread” around immediately after pouring.
If you have a little more time, try our Easy Chocolate Frosting recipe! So chocolatey, so decadent, and it pairs perfectly with cake, cupcakes, or even strawberries!

This frosting spread like a dream and easy to make but I think it is way too sweet. I put mine on milk chocolate brownies. Just too sweet for my taste.
Sorry to hear that Diana!
Loved it! My mom’s diabetic, so I substituted the sugar for stevia. She loved it :-) I also used the same amounts of almond milk and vegan butter. It came out wonderfully. Thank you for sharing. I will definitely use this recipe again!!
I am so glad you were able to make this to meet your needs and that you shared with us. I know this is going to help other readers who want to make this friendly for diabetics Amber!
Love that you shared this, and I will make it this way next time. I am also diabetic, and I use this over sugar free brownies. Sometimes almost milk doesn’t work well in recipes where thickening is needed. Thanks for sharing!!
Recipe was quick, easy and delicious. I substituted espresso for vanilla
Ooo, that sounds yummy Tracy! Great substitution.
I was worried that this would turn out too thin, after mixing, but it thickened perfectly and tasted delicious! I used a 1 cup of orange dark chocolate broken into squares, instead of choc chips and the result was great. Thanks for such a tasty, quicke recipe!
I am very interested in learning about savings money.
This frosting is amazing! I used it on espresso brownies and it was the perfect balance plus it’s SO quick and easy.
Espresso brownies sounds wonderful Cindi!! So glad you enjoyed the frosting!
Just made your e-z choc. chip frosting my hubby loved it! Thank u!
So glad you enjoyed the frosting Patty!
It took a lot longer than a minute to bring the sugar, butter and milk to a boil. Then another couple minutes to whisk in the vanilla and chocolate chips until they were fully blended. The frosting tasted good and went over the cake easily. My only issue was that it isn’t a one minute recipe.
I am glad that you enjoyed the recipe Iris. Our stovetops must be cooking at opposing speeds :)!
I agree that it took longer than 1 minute even using a induction burner. However, it was easy and relatively quick. I just wish the name would be more realistic on the time or just go with Easy Chocolate Frosting.
Holly I’m on the last prep of a chocolate Bavarian creme filling but I ran out of frosting for the top and sides I’ve been trying to find your I min frosting all day Do you have a video of you making the frosting ?? Or what other recipe would you suggest that would be simple and quick Please help me THANK-YOU before you point me in the right direction
Sorry Veda, we don’t have a video on this frosting. But we do have a whole bunch of frosting recipes that may work for you!
Hi – I like the frosting but I must’ve done something wrong because it came out more like a glaze than the frosting in your pictures. Also, it didn’t come out smooth even though I swear I followed the recipe exactly.
What did I do wrong?
Hi Michael, it does come out a bit thinner at first but when poured over the brownies and left to set it does thicken up. Make sure to bring it to a boil for the full 45 seconds to allow the sugar to fully melt to create that smooth texture.
I made this frosting to top chocolate chip cookie bars and it was fantastic! I actually believe this frosting saved the bars because they were kinda bland! This will be my new go-to boiled frosting! Thank you!
So happy to hear that you loved the frosting Elizabeth! Thank you!
The best! Very good. Thank you!
I am thrilled that you enjoyed the frosting Silvana!
Very easy and perfect for a yellow sheet cake. Remarkably not too sweet.
Thanks Freda! Glad you enjoyed it!
This is the easiest and best chocolate frosting recipe I have ever made! Delicious!
Yay! Thanks Wendy :)
We live this icing! Do you think you could let it cool down and pipe it? I’m making fancy cupcakes for a wedding
Kristy, this frosting is a pourable frosting and is too hard to pipe once cooled. We have a bunch of delicious chocolate frosting recipes that may be better suited for your cupcakes.
First time I’ve reviewed a recipe. I made this icing for sentimental reasons. When i was a kid my mortar would make cupcakes and when she took them out of the oven would just put chocolate chips on them to melt. The result a kind of crisp sort of chocolate as they hardened.
Well, I knew this one wouldn’t be the same but it looked so easy that I tried it.
It’s a fantastic icing. I used quality 60% cocoa chips so it wasn’t too sweet. Turned out fudgey and delicious. Better then regular icing, especially for cupcakes and probably for brownies too.
What a special memory Lynn!! Thank you so much for reviewing the recipe!
Have been looking for a chocolate chip icing w/o powdered sugar. This is great. Btw, I used oil as I had no butter (same amount) and it worked fine. At the end I added a few more choc chips to make it thicker.
That sounds great Deborah!

Love it I tried it with salter caramel chips
So happy you love it Terry!
