Everyone loves a gourmet burger! This is a great play on a traditional Chicken Parmesan recipe. Juicy Italian seasoned chicken patties are topped with marinara sauce, a hefty dose of cheese, and fresh basil!
These burgers can be cooked on the stovetop, in the air fryer or grilled making them perfect any time of year!
Chicken Parmesan Meets Burgers!
- Moooove over hamburgers! Chicken parm burgers are an easy upgrade and a different twist on our usual.
- The chicken patties can be made up to 24 hours in advance making mealtime quick and easy.
- They come out juicy with lots of flavor and can be pan fried, grilled, or air fried.
- Serve them in a hamburger bun, brioche roll, or even over a plate of spaghetti.
Serve with equally fancy Garlic Parmesan Fries and a tasty dipping sauce. Don’t forget a bright, flavorful caesar salad or tossed salad.
Ingredients
CHICKEN: I use lean ground chicken in these patties but ground turkey works well too. If you’re short on time, you can use frozen turkey or chicken patties.
SEASONINGS: Italian seasoned breadcrumbs, sautéed onions and garlic, and parmesan cheese give the chicken patties a savory flavor. We love the addition of Italian Seasoning!
TOPPINGS: The marinara (or a jarred pasta sauce) is a must-have for chicken parmesan burgers! Freeze leftover marinara in zippered bags for future recipes! Add lots of mozzarella, some parmesan cheese and fresh basil.
BUNS: Brioche buns are light and sweet and have that definite wow factor but your favorite hamburger buns work just fine in this recipe. Toasting the buns with garlic butter adds another layer of flavor.
Variations
- Add a sprinkle of chili flakes for a spicy marinara.
- Make low-carb chicken parmesan patties by switching out the breadcrumbs for crushed pork rinds, and serve with extra marinara, cheese, and no bun.
- Can’t find brioche? Cut thick slices of garlic bread or use Texas Toast (find it in the frozen section).
How to Make Chicken Parmesan Burgers
Just a few easy steps to homemade gourmet burger perfection!
- Combine the chicken patty ingredients and pan fry (or air fry) until cooked through.
- Spread garlic butter on buns & toast until golden.
- Spoon heated marinara sauce & cheese onto the patties & serve over buns.
Garnish with fresh basil leaves, tomato slices, red onion slices & extra marinara sauce, if desired.
Tips for Perfect Chicken Burgers
- Combine the patty ingredients just until mixed.
- Choose lean chicken (not extra lean), a little bit of fat keeps them juicy.
- Cooking the onion softens both the texture and flavor. If you don’t have time to pan fry it, microwave it with a splash of water until tender.
- Chicken is lean, do not overcook it. The center of the patties should reach 165°F.
- Heat the marinara and put it on the chicken patties in the pan. Top with cheese and cover or broil a few minutes to melt.
