Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is one of our favorite comfort foods. Tender beef patties simmered in rich brown gravy with mushrooms and onions. This crockpot salisbury steak is perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice or pasta!

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
This easy Salisbury steak one of our favorite family meals! I love using my slow cooker any time of year! We serve this on top of garlic mashed potatoes or rice but my all time favorite is serving it over cooked macaroni noodles. Add a side salad and you’ve got the perfect meal!
Since I’m the one who does most of the cooking, I love coming home to a ready meal and this easy slow cooker Salisbury Steak recipe tops my list.
The beef patties simmer all day in a rich gravy with mushrooms and onions resulting in a really flavorful dish and making them extra tender.
A lot of people confuse Salisbury steaks (which is a combination of ground beef in gravy) with Swiss Steak which is generally minute steak with a tomato-based sauce. (You can find my favorite Swiss steak recipe here).

Tips for Crockpot Salisbury Steak
This Easy Salisbury Steak can be prepared in a skillet but I love it in the slow cooker since it can be prepped ahead of time and it’s ready right when we get home from soccer practice.
- Homemade patties: it doesn’t take long to make the beef patties homemade, and they taste absolutely delicious.
- Sear the Patties: The simple step of searing the beef patties just helps them to hold their shape without falling apart plus browning meat always adds extra flavor!
- Freeze Option: I often double the beef patties in this recipe and freeze half of them (without browning them first) for next time. If you happen to have pre-made frozen beef patties they can be used in this recipe as well with great results.
- Ground Turkey Option: We have also made this recipe with ground turkey (I also add a bit of celery to the mixture) and a turkey gravy with great results. The patties always come out flavorful and fork tender.
Once seared the patties are layered in the Crock Pot with sliced onions and mushrooms. Next, I combine the gravy ingredients and pour it over the patties. While some recipes do call for cream of mushroom soup, I prefer this version with a richer darker gravy.

Easy Salisbury Steak Leftover Idea
Should you be lucky enough to have leftovers (we rarely do), this reheats perfectly and makes a great messy sandwich in a hamburger bun topped with sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise.
This easy salisbury steak recipe reheats perfectly and freezes well too!

Awesome recipe.comfort food for sure
Hello. It looks delicious . I dont know what the Dry gravy mix is. Can’t I cook this in a daily saucepan? Must I ise slow cooker? Thanks
You can find gravy mix in the spice asile of most grocery stores or online at Amazon.
will i need to double everything if my meat is a little over 2lbs?
I think you’d be ok to leave it as is and maybe just add additional seasonings to the patties.
Thank You, cant wait to make this. I love to cook.
Enjoy!
does fresh parsley go into crock pot or is it a garnish for the meal?
The fresh parsley goes into the sauce in the slow cooker. You can certainly add a little bit extra as garnish at the end.
This one sounds great. Need to try it.
I’ve never made salisbury steak from scratch before so I like this recipe. I making it now (we are night people) but I don’t have 5 hours to wait for it to be done so I turned the crock pot up to hight and I’m hoping it is done in 2 to 3 hours.
Yum yummy looking good American cooking!!!
WILL THE BROWN GRavy mix not thicken broth before done
It doesn’t thicken before the recipe is done.
Made the Salisbury Steak today, we all loved I served it with mustard mashed potato. Well worth the wait. Will be adding this to my recipe folder
I’m so glad you loved it!
In the crockpot now. Can’t wait to taste it.
Wow, this looks delicious! I’m going to have try this! Thank you!
Enjoy Mario!
I love my crock pot, but can this be made in the oven or on the stove top too?
I haven’t tried it that way but I’m sure this would work on the stove top.
Making the slow cooker Salisbury Steak, they have just gone into slow cooker and already smelling delicious
You show spices but don’t list them in the recipe ? Could you tell us what they are ?
The seasonings in the patties are salt & pepper.
Best ever had!!! Would like to take credit but the recipe was AWESOME
So glad you loved it Linda!
OMG I made this last night except I used beef stew meat and added some spices of my choice: herbs de province, Italian seasoning, parsley, garlic powder, bay leaf and oregano. I used my Dutch oven to make this instead of using the cook pot due to time restraints. Served it over rice and my husband said this is his new favorite meal that I make he said it ranks up there with my spaghetti and meatballs! What a compliment. Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad you enjoyed this recipe!
I always stay true to a recipe the first time making & then if I make again, tweak to my own taste. Threw this together this morning (by the recipe) before work & we had for dinner! Omgoodness! Wonderful! No tweaking necessary! I wouldn’t change a thing! Delicious! (I cooked on low/medium for 8 hrs)
I’m so glad you loved this recipe Donna! :)
I have fixed this twice now and so good both times! I used ground buffalo in place of the beef and it was a great substitute! Mashed potatoes and peas made it a complete meal.
Could pieces of tenderized round steak be used instead of the hamburger patties???
I haven’t made it that way but I do think it would be delicious!
This looks absolutely delicious! This looks like my kind of comfort dish. I have got to try it. Pinned thanks for sharing!
Thank you for Pinning Linda!
