Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak is one of our favorite comfort foods. Tender beef patties simmered in rich brown gravy with mushrooms and onions. This crockpot salisbury steak is perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice or pasta!

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak
This easy Salisbury steak one of our favorite family meals! I love using my slow cooker any time of year! We serve this on top of garlic mashed potatoes or rice but my all time favorite is serving it over cooked macaroni noodles. Add a side salad and you’ve got the perfect meal!
Since I’m the one who does most of the cooking, I love coming home to a ready meal and this easy slow cooker Salisbury Steak recipe tops my list.
The beef patties simmer all day in a rich gravy with mushrooms and onions resulting in a really flavorful dish and making them extra tender.
A lot of people confuse Salisbury steaks (which is a combination of ground beef in gravy) with Swiss Steak which is generally minute steak with a tomato-based sauce. (You can find my favorite Swiss steak recipe here).

Tips for Crockpot Salisbury Steak
This Easy Salisbury Steak can be prepared in a skillet but I love it in the slow cooker since it can be prepped ahead of time and it’s ready right when we get home from soccer practice.
- Homemade patties: it doesn’t take long to make the beef patties homemade, and they taste absolutely delicious.
- Sear the Patties: The simple step of searing the beef patties just helps them to hold their shape without falling apart plus browning meat always adds extra flavor!
- Freeze Option: I often double the beef patties in this recipe and freeze half of them (without browning them first) for next time. If you happen to have pre-made frozen beef patties they can be used in this recipe as well with great results.
- Ground Turkey Option: We have also made this recipe with ground turkey (I also add a bit of celery to the mixture) and a turkey gravy with great results. The patties always come out flavorful and fork tender.
Once seared the patties are layered in the Crock Pot with sliced onions and mushrooms. Next, I combine the gravy ingredients and pour it over the patties. While some recipes do call for cream of mushroom soup, I prefer this version with a richer darker gravy.

Easy Salisbury Steak Leftover Idea
Should you be lucky enough to have leftovers (we rarely do), this reheats perfectly and makes a great messy sandwich in a hamburger bun topped with sliced tomatoes and mayonnaise.
This easy salisbury steak recipe reheats perfectly and freezes well too!

2nd time making this recipe. (This time without mushrooms bc I forgot to buy them). It is so good!! Even my picky 10 yr old loves it. So much flavor!!
I am stuck in my condo in the country …. in a two day blizzard … When I saw this … I know what I am fetching tomorrow for dinner! thank you!
I hope you loved it!
I made this recipe for Thanksgiving.Easy and my spouse loved it.
I am so glad your family enjoyed this recipe!
Does it have to be made into a burger patty shape or can i flatten it like a steak like the Banquet salisbury steak?
Any shape should be fine.
Love this recipe!!
I’ve made this recipe 4 or 5 times now, but only used the slow cooker once. It works very well in the electric pressure cooker. The only thing that I do different is add 2 or 3 cloves of minced fresh garlic. Then again, I add garlic to just about everything.
This recipe was easy and amazing!!! Full of flavor
I am so glad you liked this recipe!
Can steak burgers be used?
While this isn’t always the case, generally a hamburger contains only meat or a larger portion of meat while Salisbury Steak contains binders (egg, breadcrumbs etc.) However, they’re often used interchangeably. While I have only made the recipe as written, I think it would work fine. Let me know how it works out for you!
I have made this a few times! .. My husband and myself love it!
I Invited friends over for dinner and I made this recipe. I did not alter it. It was so terrible that I had to make something else. I kept the beef to try and incorporate it with something else but the sauce I thru out. Tasted so bad.
How disappointing. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy this recipe, it’s one of our all time favorites and comes out perfectly for us every time!
I tried this recipe and it was good and tasty. My sons loved it.
I’m so glad your sons loved it!
Any suggestions—- any ideas as as substitute for the gravy packet? I’m making this for my parents who must eat low sodium. Also, what’s the difference between beef stock & beef broth?
I have only made this as written. You could try a low sodium gravy packet.
Stock is usually made more from bones and broth often uses meat. You can use them interchangeably in this recipe.
Scrumptious
supper easy and we loved it. will definitely make it again.
This went well! Such an easy recipe, simple, easy-to-find ingredients, with lots of room to adjust to taste. Even a non-kitchen person like me could make this work. It’s a great introduction, too, using a slow cooker.
This is my family’s new favorite meal! The only thing I changed was that I use ground chicken instead of ground beef. Sooooo yummy. Thank you. I would love more meals ideas like this!
I’m so glad you loved it!
we love this but we use half and half on the meat. (ground turkey and beef)
Can you use just regular breadcrumbs?
Yes, that would work just fine!
This recipe is delicious, had it for dinner tonight
I made this recipe and it was AMAZING. I skipped the water and cornstarch because the gravy was the perfect consistency right out of the crock pot. My family loved it and I will be making it again.
