Holly’s Recipe Highlights

  • Flavor:  Balanced, herby, and aromatic!
  • Skill Level: This recipe is beginner-friendly. Just measure and mix!
  • Prep Note: Making your own Italian seasoning is easy and allows you to adjust the flavors to your taste. You can adjust the sodium or ensure it’s gluten-free (just check your spices).
  • Budget Tip: Making spice blends at home is often more cost-effective than purchasing pre-made versions, so make a large batch and stock up.
  • Storage Suggestion: Store it in a spice jar or an airtight container for up to 6 months. You can keep it longer since the spices are dried, but it will begin to lose flavor.

  1. At the age of 76 it is too late for me to eat spicy foods so I am just going to cross out the Red Pepper spice !!!! Believe you me my son would have to rush me to the emergency room I am
The rest of the recipe, not kidding about this!!!! So, I crossed it off my spice list!!!!!!!

  3. Really good. My Herbs/Spices consist of White Pepper, Garlic Powder, Rosemary, Mint ground and mixed with Olive Oil like a Pesto. Then pour that onto the Meat, Egg, Milk mixture, and combine.

  4. I wonder why you say “the perfect blend of spices…” when the only spice is chilli flakes. Surely it should be called “the perfect blend of herbs with chilli…”
I have been using this for over 12 months in all sorts of cooking and love the recipe. I am just about to make a 3rd lot since I found the recipe.4 stars

    1. Hi Sandra, we refer to all the ingredients in the recipe as spices. I’m glad you are enjoying it!

      1. Perhaps “the perfect blend of seasonings and spices” would be a better description for this blend for those who are questioning the word “spices” only? Just a thought.

I’ve never thought of making my own Italian seasoning. There’s something in the one I get from the store that I just don’t like and I haven’t been able to identify it yet. This might help and I can omit it if I choose. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.5 stars

  5. I really thought I’d reviewed this before. This is my go to recipe for Italian seasoning. I love being able to source it with spices I already have and that it’s salt-free (I love salt but too many spice blends lean on salt and you never know what you’re going to end up with). 5-stars!

PS – making another batch now! :-)5 stars

    1. Hi Lon, perhaps you are thinking of a different recipe? This recipe does not include any of those ingredients.

  6. I use this seasoning on so many dishes! It’s great for meats, gravies, veggies, etc. It gives the right amount of seasoning and kick to anything savory. Sometimes I add coriander or marjoram to the mix. Thank you!5 stars

  8. I’ve been craving pasta these days, so I was thinking of grabbing Italian food for dinner with my friends later. Thank you for letting us know that Italian seasoning uses a blend of herbs and spices to give an extra mild flavor to our pasta sauces. I’ll keep this in mind while I look for a nearby authentic Italian restaurant we can go to for dinner later.

  9. Your blog is impressive, thanks to the quality of your recipes & other content….

  10. Great recipe for so many dishes…but do especially love it as a salad topper with some EVO and white vinegar plus a dash of salt! Fresh and delicious!! Much more healthy than store bought dressings!! thank you5 stars
