How to Make Hamburger Casserole
- Brown the ground beef in a large skillet, add the sauce ingredients, and simmer.

Ingredients
- 8 ounces rotini or medium pasta
- 1½ cups frozen mixed vegetables
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 small onion diced
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt or to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (14 ounce) can pasta sauce
- 1 (14 ounce) can diced tomatoes or petite diced tomatoes, lightly drained
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese blend
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the rotini al dente according to package directions. Add the frozen mixed vegetables to the boiling water for the last minute of cooking time.
- Meanwhile, heat a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onion to the skillet, cooking until no pink remains. Drain any grease. Stir in the oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Add the pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce to the skillet. Simmer for 4 to 5 minutes or until thickened.
- In a large bowl, combine the sauce, pasta, and vegetables. Spread into a 2.5 QT casserole dish and top with cheese.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or just until heated through and the cheese is melted.

this was honestly way better than I expected. I wanted something kid friendly. My 7 year olds have been so picky. They took a bite and yelled “good meat”! lol. This is one of the best casseroles I have ever made! I didn’t change a single thing and it was perfect just as is. I made a 13×9 pan and we polished it off in 2 days. I’ll definitely be making this again very soon. It pairs well with a mixed greens salad and cherry tomatoes.

I made this Hamburger Casserole tonight. It was a hit! I made it by the recipe but used home canned spaghetti sauce. This is definitely a keeper! It does make 6 generous servings. Next time I might see if I can cut the recipe in half since it’s just my hubby and me.

This was a quick weeknight dinner that o prepared in the morning, kept in the fridge all day, and then warmed up in between kids sports! Love that it only took 20 minutes to reheat. I would maybe add 10 more minutes of reheat time next time though as the pan was cold and there were still some cool spots when we served it. Easy fix in the microwave!

This was so good! My family enjoyed this casserole so much I was asked to make it again.
So annoying. Doesn’t say when our in oven if it’s covered or not. I always find these recipes turn out dry. Hope this one is better.
The casserole does not need to be covered just top with cheese in step 5 and bake in step 6 as indicated. This casserole bakes for under 20 minutes and is nice and saucy so it shouldn’t be dry.
For future, if any of my recipes need to be covered, it will be specify to cover it in the recipe. I hope that helps.
Love it! Moved to my Favorites folder on Pinterest. We like it spicy so we increased all the spices from 1/2 to 1 whole TBSP and added a TBSP of chili powder. We used a whole jar of Ragu Original Pasta Sauce.

I have never left a comment on a recipe before, but there has to be a first time for everything!
I am not a beef eater, so I substituted Impossible burgers. I fried it up the same way the recipe calls for. I also did not have any pasta sauce so I used 2 cans of diced tomatoes, 1 small can tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, more garlic (fresh and powder), some onion powder (as well as the diced that the recipe calls for), I doubled the basil and oregano, and I also added 1 jalapeno and 1 serrano chili, and some red pepper flakes (because we like spicy food). I used a mix of cheese, with parmesan, about half and half. Oh, I also snuck in 1.5 cups frozen mixed veggies while my husband wasn’t looking. Ha!
