Are you a Nutella fan? If so, you’re really going to love this Nutella Mug Cake recipe!! It makes a perfect quick snack, and it’s so decadent! The best part of this is that you can throw it together very quickly and it cooks in the microwave!

Make sure you use a really large mug for this or even a small bowl because it does bubble up a bit.  You will need to try it out a couple of times to get the timing right for your own microwave because they vary so much!

Note:  I used to put oil in this recipe when I made it but I soon realized it was unnecessary.

  1. Super tasty but the top half cooked, the bottom half was still liquid, was in microwave for 1min 30sec, time to play around with timing and maybe a bowl instead a mug4 stars

    1. Yes, you may have to play with the microwave timing a little because there is a HUGE variance in power. Mine was done in about 65 seconds. You don’t want to overcook the cake, as you want it a little “fudgy” in the middle! Enjoy Lorna!

  2. Hi do you have to use 4 tablespoons sugar or can you add less so it fits your liking because I don’t like my things very sweet

  3. Loved this a looooot! Best mug cake so far! Took only one spoon of sugar though, which was more than enough for me

  4. This was soooo delicious. I followed the recipe exactly and it made more than enough for two people. It took a little longer than stated. After 60 seconds, it was still too gooey so I put it in another 25 seconds and it was perfect. I used a big mug, about 20 oz. I will be making this again. Some ice-cream or whip cream would be the perfect accompaniment. Awesome, thanks for sharing!!

  5. Super yummy BUT within the first 30 seconds it exploded in the microwave and I had to clean the excess batter

I would put something over top

  6. Just ate it…. delicious!!!! Perfect for chocolate cravings! I had to stop it after 30 seconds because it made a big mess in the microwave (my bad, didnt use a mug big enough…) so i put it in a bowl and baked it another 30 seconds….. Perfection in a mug !!! Wow!

    1. Any grocery store should have cocoa powder in the baking area. I have only tried the recipe as written.

  7. The top half was delicious but by the time I got to the middle it was too gooey. I would defintely make again

    1. It can sometimes take a little bit of playing to get the timing exact in your own microwave. Glad you enjoyed it! :)

  8. I just tried this, but my bf is anti-microwave. So, instead, I used a 2 cup pyrex glass bowl and preheated the oven to 350. I just kept an eye on it until it was baked through. Came out delicious! Unfortunately the oven in our apt is incredibly old and inefficient, so it took like 45 minutes. Next time I do it, I’m gonna try it in our toaster oven, My guess is it’ll take half the time.

    1. Maybe a bigger mug would help. As far as timing, microwaves can vary so much, you may need to play with it by adding 15 seconds each time until you figure out how your microwave runs.

      1. Oh no, that is so disappointing! Microwaves can vary greatly so you may need to adjust for yours.

  9. Substituted 1 tablespoon coconut flour for the 4 tablespoons regular flour to make it gluten free, turned out amazingly :)

  10. So, I didn’t have any Nutella, but couldn’t wait to give this a try. I threw in some peanut butter instead, and ended up with a pretty tasty Reese’s cake!
