Ingredients For Dortios Casserole

  • Doritos: There are many flavors of Doritos, use your favorite (I use Nacho Cheese). Try siracha, cool ranch, or spicy-sweet chili.
  • Meat: This recipe uses lean ground beef seasoned with taco seasoning.
  • Sauce: The creamy sauce combines condensed soup, sour cream, and salsa (mild or hot). It’s easy and delicious.
  • Cheese: Cheddar or a Mexican cheese blend works well here.

Variations

  • Filling: Mix refried beans or black beans into the meat mixture, add extra vegetables, like corn or green chiles, or stretch the casserole by adding rice.
  • Toppings: Top with your favorite vegetables like shredded lettuce or fresh diced tomatoes, or add a dollop of sour cream or guacamole on top of each serving.
  • Garnish: Before serving sprinkle with cilantro, sliced green onions, or olives for added flavor.

How To Make Dorito Casserole

  1. Brown ground beef and onion.
  2. Combine the meat mixture with the remaining filling ingredients (full recipe below).

Holly’s Casserole Tips

  • For crushing the Doritos, place them in a bag and crush them by hand, but not too small.
  • Drain the fat from the ground beef so the casserole is not too runny.
  • Buy pre-shredded cheese to make the assembly easier.
  • Spray the tin foil with cooking oil so it doesn’t stick to the top layer of cheese.
  • Remember to remove the foil for the last 20 minutes. This will help the casserole top layer turn brown and bubbly.

  1. I made this Layered Dorito Casserole last night. Instead of regular taco mix, I used spicy taco mix and wow – it was spicy! I topped each serving with lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, and a big dollop of sour cream to cool down the spice hit. It worked! This is a very flavorful recipe.

I will make this again but cut down on the Doritos, as they just seemed a bit too much. I used lean ground beef (93%), regular sour cream, and mild salsa (glad I didn’t use medium or hot!). The leftovers will be frozen, vacuum-sealed, and go into the freezer for another day.5 stars

  2. Hi! This looks delicious and my daughter is craving tacos tonight!
How does this double and is a 2 qt dish equivalent to a 9×13 lasagna dish?
    Thanks,
    Lesly

  3. I made this tonight and it wad great! My family loved it and i will be making this again! My picky eater even said it was good mama and while i was making it she said”mama are you really putting all that stuff on my chips” lol

  4. I will prepare this for my cookie party, but I plan to use Jimmy Dean Sausage along with Rotel tomatoes.  Thanks

  5. This was everything I hoped it would be! Just what I was looking for. AND it did NOT
disappoint. Thank you very much for this recipe!

  6. I have made this several times, instead of soup and salsa I mix in my homemade red chili and it comes out great!! Will try to using salsa and soup with a chicken dorito bake!5 stars

  7. I’m going to make this recipe. But I can’t find at all what type of pan you used and if I didn’t read the comments about straining the salsa I wouldn’t of known. I read through your whole post a few times and maybe I missing something but I can’t find those two things.

    1. I used a 9×9, but any smaller size casserole dish should work just fine. Lauren, we’ve adjusted the recipe slightly so that you don’t need to strain the salsa. Let us know how it turns out for you!

  8. Very good & easy. I’ve been trying to get my daughter, aged 12, to get involved with cooking and she made her first meal (by herself) via this recipe tonight. Great success for the family and even her brother, aged 11, told her she did a good job. (WOW) Thank you for sharing!!5 stars

  9. Just made this tonight. We all liked it a lot. It uses ingredients that I always have on hand. So it can be a last minute go-to recipe.5 stars
