Ingredients For Dortios Casserole

  • Doritos: There are many flavors of Doritos, use your favorite (I use Nacho Cheese). Try siracha, cool ranch, or spicy-sweet chili.
  • Meat: This recipe uses lean ground beef seasoned with taco seasoning.
  • Sauce: The creamy sauce combines condensed soup, sour cream, and salsa (mild or hot). It’s easy and delicious.
  • Cheese: Cheddar or a Mexican cheese blend works well here.

Variations

  • Filling: Mix refried beans or black beans into the meat mixture, add extra vegetables, like corn or green chiles, or stretch the casserole by adding rice.
  • Toppings: Top with your favorite vegetables like shredded lettuce or fresh diced tomatoes, or add a dollop of sour cream or guacamole on top of each serving.
  • Garnish: Before serving sprinkle with cilantro, sliced green onions, or olives for added flavor.

How To Make Dorito Casserole

  1. Brown ground beef and onion.
  2. Combine the meat mixture with the remaining filling ingredients (full recipe below).

Holly’s Casserole Tips

  • For crushing the Doritos, place them in a bag and crush them by hand, but not too small.
  • Drain the fat from the ground beef so the casserole is not too runny.
  • Buy pre-shredded cheese to make the assembly easier.
  • Spray the tin foil with cooking oil so it doesn’t stick to the top layer of cheese.
  • Remember to remove the foil for the last 20 minutes. This will help the casserole top layer turn brown and bubbly.

  1. We used leftover turkey from Thanksgiving because we just don’t like the texture of ground beef. We also used Nacho Cheese Doritos, Ro-Tel tomatoes, & both Cream of Mushrooms, & Cream of Chicken soups! It was absolutely delicious!! Definitely a keeper!!

  2. Have you ever re-heated this?
I have a dog sitter coming for Friday night and was thinking of making it Thursday for him
and hopefully he can re-heat it.

Does anyone know if this will work?

    Thanks!
    Lee-Anne

  3. Thanks for the yummy recipe. I added hot sauce and chopped green onions to the toppings when served to my family.

  4. Ohhh myyy gaaaawd!
Yes, I am a grown up woman and I said it!
It is just that good!!! Bless you for sharing the joy!!! ;)

  5. I can’t recall the last time I bought doritos… but… yeah, I will totally be throwing some in the cart tomorrow!!

  6. Okay, so seriously, how could something with layers of Doritos not taste amazing!? I can tell this would cause major cravings…my kids will thank you for this. Added to the menu…

  7. No judgement on having Doritos for dinner….one of my favorite family recipes involve Doritos for dinner. This looks fantastic.

  8. I need to make this- Any excuse to use doritos with something NOT just as a dip vehicle!

  9. Made this last night and family loved it. Thanks for such a tasty recipe. Definitely good for a TRY IT THURSDAY. ❤

  10. We love Doritos casserole’s here in our house… I mean combining tacos and Doritos can never be a bad thing right? Your recipe looks great, I’ll have to give it a try :D

  11. I was a little disappointed in this. It had a good taste but the top was dry when I took it from yhe oven. I baked as directed & covered with foil. Not sure what happened.

  12. This is a delicious dish! I modified for my families taste buds though and it came out excellent… We used ranch dressing in place of sour cream and added corn and some shredded lettuce, and mixed in some of the crushed chips with the meat mixture… Huge hit!

      1. I have frozen, tho, only the meat sauce. When ready to make again and I thaw out the meat sauce and use fresh Doritos, shredded cheese and toppings,. This turns out better than the entire casserole being frozen, to my taste buds. Thanks! PS – I also add fresh shucked corn, off the cobb, to the meat mixture. So YuM! Also have I don’t drain the salsa, as when baking, the Doritos soak up the juice. Not soggy at all!
