Ingredients for a Great BLT Sandwich

Part of what makes this sandwich so special is that there are only a handful of ingredients: bread, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

Bacon: Cook bacon in the oven for an easy no-mess way to make crispy bacon.

Lettuce: Use green leaf lettuce, iceberg, butter lettuce, or Romaine. You can leave them whole, but I love thinly shredded lettuce in my sandwiches.

Tomatoes: A great BLT is made with the best ripe, juicy tomatoes. I love Beefsteak or heirloom tomatoes, but any ripe tomatoes can be used.

Bread: I prefer a nice thick bread like sourdough or a loaf of artisan bread however, sandwich bread works just fine too.

Variations

  • Adding sliced avocado
  • Turn it into a BELT by adding a fried egg.
  • Swap the mayo for Chipotle Aioli for a little kick.
  • Add a bit of Dijon mustard.

Enjoy the flavors of a classic BLT and turn it into a BLT grilled cheese or a BLT pasta salad for a fun and delicious twist!

  1. I’ve been using your blog all month since I found you on Pinterest. I’m saving money and cooking these delicious homemade meals. I used your oven bacon method. I finally know what temp and time to cook the bacon in there! Thank youuuu. I follow ALOT of blogs and yours is my favorite so far! All my meals have been coming out perfectly by following your recipes.5 stars

  2. BLT’s are one of my absolute favorite types of sandwiches! Your recipe looked so good that I had to link to it from my soup post! Definitely adding this to my menu plan.

  3. I love all of your recipes and rarely alter them. This one, however, I have a way of making that my family has raved over. Little things are BIG things, such as assembly. I prefer to soak my lettuce leaves in lukewarm (not hot) water for 3 to 4 minutes. I then drain the lettuce, put in plastic colander over a bowl and refrigerate for 15 min…minimum.
Toast the bread. Half the slices get butter first. Then spread mayo on the other halves.
Butter side up, add cold lettuce, salt.pepper to taste, then bacon, then tomato. Top with the mayo side of bread.
Amazing. Now that has to be for dinner tonight lol5 stars

  4. A trick I learned is to brush a bit of the bacon grease on the toast. Really amps up the bacon flavor!
