Classic Spinach Salad dressing in a jar

I love spinach salad and I always have!  My mom used to make it loaded up with goodies like eggs, bacon and mushrooms!  It could literally be a meal on it’s own!

This Spinach Salad is topped with an easy homemade Creamy Poppy Seed Dressing recipe. The great thing is that this dressing is a vinaigrette meaning it has no dairy yet it’s still rich and creamy.  If you’ve never made your own dressing, it’s something you’ve got to try.  It’s really easy and it tastes SO much better than bottled dressing (I could almost drink this Buttermilk Ranch Dressing).

One of the things to keep in mind when making the dressing is that you’ll want to be adding the oil as slowly as you possibly can to allow the mixture to emulsify (or thicken).  This is the same technique used when making mayonnaise.  This dressing will keep in the fridge for about 3 days but once you try it you’ll be wanting salad for every meal so likely it’ll be long gone before then!

  1. I wash eggs in dish detergent before cracking them if using them raw.
Not sure if it changes anything but it makes me feel better…….

  2. so yummy! i substituted mayo and just added in the mustard and poppyseeds, salt & pepper & honey…. feeling like a pro! LOL. My salad is very frugal just dressing and i tossed in some fresh strawberries. It was like a dream on this hot summer day.5 stars

  3. Sounds delicious & healthy, but it isn’t. Waaay too many calories & fat for ‘just’ having a salad. It does however, sound very tasty. I think I’ll pass on this one.

    1. Many dressings contain raw eggs (such as homemade caesar salad dressing). Emulsifying raw eggs with oil makes mayonnaise which is why this dressing has a creamy texture. If you are pregnant you would likely want to avoid raw eggs.

    2. Mayonnaise contains “raw” eggs.
And I do believe salad dressings such as:
Creamy Italian, Ranch, Russian, French & even McDonald’s Big Mac’s “special sauce”.

  4. this is what I call a salad! I love all those healthy and gourmet ingredients in the dressing. pinning!

  5. Perfect. I needed a new homemade dressing in my life and this is one I’ll be trying. Love spinach salads!

  6. I;ve never made poppy seed dressing. Bet it so much better than store bought. The salad looks delicious!
