Ingredients For Dortios Casserole

  • Doritos: There are many flavors of Doritos, use your favorite (I use Nacho Cheese). Try siracha, cool ranch, or spicy-sweet chili.
  • Meat: This recipe uses lean ground beef seasoned with taco seasoning.
  • Sauce: The creamy sauce combines condensed soup, sour cream, and salsa (mild or hot). It’s easy and delicious.
  • Cheese: Cheddar or a Mexican cheese blend works well here.

Variations

  • Filling: Mix refried beans or black beans into the meat mixture, add extra vegetables, like corn or green chiles, or stretch the casserole by adding rice.
  • Toppings: Top with your favorite vegetables like shredded lettuce or fresh diced tomatoes, or add a dollop of sour cream or guacamole on top of each serving.
  • Garnish: Before serving sprinkle with cilantro, sliced green onions, or olives for added flavor.

How To Make Dorito Casserole

  1. Brown ground beef and onion.
  2. Combine the meat mixture with the remaining filling ingredients (full recipe below).

Holly’s Casserole Tips

  • For crushing the Doritos, place them in a bag and crush them by hand, but not too small.
  • Drain the fat from the ground beef so the casserole is not too runny.
  • Buy pre-shredded cheese to make the assembly easier.
  • Spray the tin foil with cooking oil so it doesn’t stick to the top layer of cheese.
  • Remember to remove the foil for the last 20 minutes. This will help the casserole top layer turn brown and bubbly.

  1. My family loves this casserole. It’s really easy, makes delicious leftovers, perfect for a night when you want to throw something together that makes everyone happy.5 stars

  2. This is my son-in-law’s favorite dish I make. He requests it as payment when helping me with home repairs. It’s easy to make, not too expensive and I usually double the recipe because I’m feeding him and my husband my daughter and my grandson. I throw in a side of refried beans and top the casserole off with shredded lettuce tomato olives and white corn. I also serve thousand island and ranch with it.

  3. Wonderful easy and tasty! Didn’t make any changes but I can see where there could be ways to add lots of different veggies or meat to this. Not that it needs a change.5 stars

  4. I just had to let you know how much my picky grandkids lived this recipe! And I loved it because I could put the vegetables on top! They are usually just meat and cheese taco eaters. I snuck in the Salsa by immersion blending it smooth so they wouldn’t see any chunks! I used my Nina grill and baked for 20 minutes at 325 covered then 10 uncovered and it turned out perfect! Thanks so much for a great recipe! As always you are awesome!5 stars

  5. This sounds AMAZING! I’m making this tonight for the family. I’m going to add mexican rice since I dont have beans on hand but just decribing this to my kids had their mouths watering. I havent told the wife yet but she has been wanting to make a casserole for some time now and couldnt find one that sounded good to me (since I’m such a picky eater). This sounds like a wonderful surprise when she gets home from work. Thank you for this great idea!

  6. Super, super…BUT…I much prefer adding a can of retried beans, slightly less nacho chips maybe 2 cups and ground down then mix all together including the 2 cups of cheese. Bake covered for 45 min. Freezes beautifully. Husband uses it for his breakfast burrito adding potatoes, and a couple of eggs on a corn tortilla. Since finding this recipe I have been going thru COSTCO bottles of taco powder like crazy. I love burritos, so putting this mix on a flour tortilla is my idea of heaven.5 stars

  7. I used what I had on hand to substitute and it was still superb! I added a can of pinto beans, half cheddar and half Monterey Jack cheese, and mushroom soup. The family ate it all and asked to have it again soon. Definitely a keeper!5 stars

  8. Made this about 4 times now because it’s so good. The only thing I did different 2 of those times was put refried beans in the bottom of the casserole dish5 stars

  9. This was absolutely delicious! I only made one change, and that was that I used ground turkey – we always sub turkey for ground beef in our family.

Otherwise, I just followed the recipe and then served it with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, sliced black olives and sour cream. I had extra cheese & salsa available, but neither was necessary at all.

We loved every bite. I immediately transcribed the recipe into our Family Favorites recipe book! I’m so glad to have found your site!5 stars

    1. That is awesome Rae! So happy you loved it enough to add it to your family favorites!

  10. I like this recipe but it is definitely misleading. Prep is way longer than 15 minutes.
You want the onion chopped (4 minutes), the garlic minced (1 minute), the burger browned (20 minutes), 5 minutes for the salsa, seasoning and water to be thickened, then combine everything and make layers (5 minutes)….. that’s 35 minutes of actual preparation time.3 stars

    1. I’m sure prep times differ from person to person. I prepped in 15 minutes.
      Thanks! Great recipe!!

  11. I have tried multiple recipes for this, this is by far the best. This dish just made it to our favorite recipes list. I dont even leave reviews normally. Ya I know, I suck as a person. But this was so good, my kids specifically asked me to leave a review.5 stars

    1. That is how you know they really love it Taryn! Say thanks to your kids for us :)

  12. Tried this the other night and it was delicious!! Followed the recipe exactly only added, along with lettuce, tomato, sliced black olives, chopped green onions! Husband and son loved it!! Thanks for sharing!!5 stars

    1. All the recipes I have found sounds great I’m getting back into cooking again and I can’t wait to get started working on them really soon

  13. Used ground pork instead of beef, a little accent salt, and left out cream of chicken soup and mixed the nacho cheese Doritos with plain tortillas. It was the bomb!!! The picky family loves it!!5 stars
