That’s right, a Dorito Casserole, made of course with Doritos!
Seasoned ground beef mixed with cheese, salsa, and sour cream is layered with your favorite flavor of Doritos and lots of cheese.
Layers of Doritos create a delicious base for this casserole which is then topped with cheese and baked in the oven until brown and bubbly. Top it with our favorite taco-inspired toppings! This casserole will definitely surprise and please the family at the dinner table.
Favorite Taco Inspired Casserole
- Inspired by the typical taco casserole, this recipe is set apart by the addition of Doritos.
- The filling is SO good I could almost eat it on it’s own with tortilla chips or is the perfect filling to wrap in tortillas with your favorite taco toppings.
- Top this dish with your favorite taco toppings.
- This taco casserole with Doritos is so simple and so easy to make, our family loves it!
Ingredients
DORITOS There are so many flavors of Doritos so use your favorite (I usually go for Nacho Cheese)! Try siracha, cool ranch, spicy-sweet chili!
FILLING Zesty seasoned ground beef is mixed with sour cream for tang, cheese, salsa (mild or hot!), and a can of condensed soup. It’s extra creamy and flavorful. Use store-bought salsa or try Homemade Salsa or even Pico de Gallo! We prefer homemade taco seasoning but a packet works just fine too.
Top it all off with lots of cheese before baking and then pile on all of the typical fixings, including shredded lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and sour cream.
How to Make Dorito Casserole
Surprise them at the dinner table with this Dorito casserole.
- Brown ground beef and onion. Simmer with salsa & seasoning (per the recipe below).
- Combine the browned beef with the remaining filling ingredients.
- Layer Doritos, filling and cheese per the recipe instructions.
- Bake until hot & bubbly. Add toppings & serve.
Best Casserole Tips
- For crushing the Doritos, place them in a bag and crush them by hand, but not too small.
- Drain the fat from the ground beef so the casserole is not too runny.
- Buy pre-shredded cheese to make the assembly easier.
- Spray the tin foil with cooking oil so it doesn’t stick to the top layer of cheese.
- Remember to remove this foil for the last 20 minutes. This will help the casserole top layer turns brown and so good.

What a terrific recipe! I’m not usually a fan of Southwestern food, but I do LOVE Doritos (go figure), so I tried this dish & loved it, as did my family. I used Chobani Yogurt instead of Sour Cream, and also used Heart Healthy Cream of Mushroom Soup. OMG, this was SO yummy! Thanks :-)
Looks delicious
I made this tonight, and it was tasty. Definitely not diet food, but anyone could see that from the ingredients, ha ha!
The most surprising thing was how the Cream of Chicken soup blended right in to all of the flavors.
Enjoyed it topped with fresh diced cherry tomatoes and cilantro.
I look forward to trying recipes.
Can’t wait for you to try them Sabrina! Let us know which ones are your favorites.
Family ate all of it! Delicious! Thank you
That is awesome Brenda! So happy they loved it.
The Layered Dorito Casserole is the bomb dot com!!! This casserole is so delicious that my sister and I had second helpings. We used a bag of Flamin’ Hot Doritos since we both love spicy food, and we added more cheese to the dish as well. We have enough leftovers for lunch, but I plan on eating some for breakfast. We will definitely be making this dish again. Thank you so much for sharing this very amazing- and very delicious recipe- Ms. Holly!!!
Thanks Shawnae! You’re the bomb dot com! Glad you and your sister enjoyed this recipe!
I am going to try it with Flaming Hot Doritos for my family likes spicy food also so good
This is an excellent recipe – easy to put together, and lots of flavour. I made it exactly as written – but there are lots of tweaks to experiment with. I liked another persons idea of adding black beans or refried beans to the meat – will try that next time
I will be making this regularly as my husband really liked it (and he is kind of picky)
I am so glad your family enjoyed this casserole Nancy!
Tried this recipe at the beginning of the week, and it was a great big hit. I used the cream of chicken, because our son doesn’t like cream of mushroom. Our normal “hey can you make that again” is two to three weeks to about a month. This recipe, however, was less than a week. We had to wait because shopping is an hour and a half drive away. Needless to say (again) this was a mega hit with our family!
Yay!! Glad it was a hit Nechelle!
Very good but I felt the flavor was a bit overpowering. I made it a second time and used regular unflavored tortilla chips and a bit less taco seasoning and it was much better!
Glad it worked out for you Annette!
Hoping to find easy recipes
I hope you find many to try here Cheryl!
Looking for easy and fast family dinner ideas.
I hope you find lots you want to try!
The instructions said to use a 2 quart baking dish. My dish is a 7 X 11. Is this large enough?
That should be about right.
My husband doesn’t like sour cream. Would it be ok not to use it?
Yes, you can leave it out!
Great food choices
I have made it with regular tortilla chips and then upped the cheese (because I love cheese lol).
This looks delicious, and something we would like. Unfortunately, Doritos have MSG in them, and that causes migraines for me. What kind of chips would suggest as an alternative? Thanks!
I would suggest using tortilla chips (any flavor or even plain will work). You’ll want to try to find ones that are a bit thicker. Enjoy!
This recipe was delicious ,I use chicken instead of beef and Rotel instead of salsa… Mmmmm good flavor and taste .I will try this again.
These sound like yummy substitutions! I am so glad you enjoyed the dish Latonia!
can i do this with chicken?
I’ve only tried the recipe as written, but think that chicken would be a great addition James!
I thought you would like to see what I posted on my Facebook page.
“The other day Christine thought she was feeling better and wanted to try out this recipe she found online, called “Doritos Casserole”. Here is the link to it.
https://www.spendwithpennies.com/layered-doritos-casserole/
I couldn’t post the recipe itself because of the restriction of posting it to social media.
Anyway, I told her to make me a shopping list of what she needed. I went to the store that morning and got the things we didn’t already have on hand. Later in the afternoon, I told her I would help her out by cooking the ground beef and onions and garlic for her. She was not quite ready to take over yet. So I did the next step, and then the next…..
I ended up cooking the whole thing..
It was very good. We had the leftovers for a couple of days. It held up well. I used the rest of the sour cream as a topping on the leftover meals, Christine really liked that.”
Thank you for sharing Joe! I’m sure glad to know that Christine felt better, enough to enjoy your cooking!
What kind of salasa would I use
Any salsa would work, I often use Pace or even a store brand on sale.
Jello can I substitute rotel tomatoes instead of salsa
Sorry I meant hello
I haven’t tried it, but think it would work. Let us know if you try it with Rotel!
Wow!! My husband and i r eating this right now!! I added 2 cans of pinto beans and it is fantastic!! Thank you so much for this recipe.. U r a genius!!
The beans are a great addition, thanks for sharing!
