This Poultry Seasoning recipe is the perfect blend of spices to add to any chicken or turkey dish or stuffing!

Poultry Seasoning in a glass jar and on a spoon

What is Poultry Seasoning?

Poultry Seasoning is a spice blend that has a homey sage-forward flavor—the type of flavor you’d associate with turkey dinner.

You can find it at the grocery store with the other spices or order it online. If ordering, it should be a brown/green color and generally doesn’t contain salt.

It’s easy to make at home and delicious in stuffing, broth or chicken soup.

Quick Tips for Making Poultry Seasoning

Poultry seasoning is a blend of spices—most of which you’ll have on hand already.

  • I use ground rosemary in this recipe. You can make ground rosemary with dried rosemary in a spice grinder or magic bullet or using a mortar and pestle.
  • This poultry seasoning recipe should be a relatively fine powder.
  • Sprinkle it into chicken casseroles, dumplings, or soups. I also use it to season a roast turkey (or chicken): rub the outside of the bird with olive oil and then season with poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper. It makes the most crispy, savory skin and tastes wonderful!

Storage

Keep poultry seasoning in a cupboard for up to 6 months in an airtight container or spice jar.  It’s the perfect substitute for pricey bottles of poultry seasoning, and while it makes 3 tablespoons, this recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.

  2. I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A GOOD POULTRY SEASONING AND FINALLY FOUND ONE USED IT FOR MY DRESSING THIS YEAR AND IT WAS WONDERFUL.5 stars

  3. Thank you! Always wanted to know what was in poultry seasoning. I also add about 1/4 tsp. to hamburger meat when making Shepherds Pie.5 stars

  4. I made this poultry seasoning when I needed it for your website’s turkey pot pie recipe. It was awesome! Thank you!5 stars

  5. McCormick ‘s Poultry Seasoning is my absolute favorite and I used it all up (lots of homemade chicken noodle/rice soup). I went to the store and there was none there. Opted for Spice Islands version and it is NOT the same. Your ingredients match EXACTLY what’s in McCormick’s version. I didn’t have the ground version of 3 of the herbs so I measured all the ingredients into my NuWave Twister (knockoff of the original Magic Bullet) and gave it a good grind. Got the same texture and aroma as my beloved McCormick’s. Put it in a glass spice jar that I had saved and good to go now.

  6. I used all your ingredients and measurements for this spice blend, except instead of ground herbs I used rubbed sage, thyme and marjoram leaves and crushed rosemary, and it’s WONDERFUL. You have to really pat the ingredients down to get a good measure, the sage especially, but it stains the food a lot less than ground sage. I use a tablespoon of this and a tablespoon of parsley flakes instead of the fresh/dried combo in your easy stuffing recipe and it’s like crack in food form.5 stars
