Ingredient Tips For Bisquick Cheeseburger Pie

  • Meat: Use 80/20 lean ground beef.
  • Potatoes: Frozen diced hash browns are pre-cut and pre-seasoned making prep super easy. You can also use leftover roasted potatoes.
  • Cheese: Cheddar is the standard for a cheeseburger, but any cheese or combination of cheeses works. American slices and Velveeta are extra melty in this cheeseburger pie recipe.
  • Sauce: Beef broth and our fave burger condiments are added to the sauce. You can tailor it to your tastes.
  • Crust: I use biscuit mix like Bisquick (or this homemade biscuit mix) to keep it quick and easy.
  • Toppings: Offer a selection of shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, onions, and pickles.

How to Make Cheeseburger Pie

  1. Prepare the ground beef mixture in a skillet.
  2. Whisk sauce ingredients, pour over meat, and top with cheese.
  3. Make Bisquick topping and cover the meat mixture.
  4. Bake (full recipe below) until the topping is golden and cooked through.

Savor It for Later!

  • Prep and freeze cheeseburger pie and top with cheese before baking. Bake from frozen or thaw if desired.
  • Keep leftover cheeseburger pie in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the microwave or the crock pot. Leftovers can be frozen and thawed overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

    1. Yes they are. If you want to use fresh potatoes I would recommend you par-boil or saute them before adding them to the pan.

  1. Hi Holly!

Do you think this recipe could potentially be freezer friendly? I was looking for some ideas for some meals I can bulk cook or like cook 2-3 at a time (one for a meal and one or two for the freezer for later).

This looks like it could potentially work but maybe like the meat mixture in the pie crust….add the topping and then maybe cook a wee bit longer?

    1. I haven’t tried this recipe as a freezer meal without baking first however the topping is biscuit mix which can be frozen before baking so it might work. I would suggest trying it at a smaller scale. After freezing, thaw in the fridge overnight and bake as directed, adding about 10 minutes to the baking time. Let us know how it goes!

      1. Holly thanks so much for the tips/ideas on how to make it work :D going to make a little note on the recipe for the tips and see what happens and I’ll be sure to come back to let folks know how it works lol :D

btw I absolutely LOVE your recipes! I’ve made several the last few weeks and they’ve always been a really big hit with my family and they taste so scrumptious! :D I guess I was just looking for some more freezer friendly ones so I could like do the work ahead of time in bulk and be lazy some days LOL! :D

      2. So sweet of you, Chelsea! I am glad you are enjoying our recipes so much.

  2. Just like eating a cheese burger! The top came out like eating a hamburger bun. Forgot to buy hashbrowns so I diced some baby potatoes and steamed them in the microwave with a T water for 3 minutes. Perfect. Its nice to have something different for a change. Thank you.5 stars

    1. Hi Genevieve, we have not tried this recipe with real potatoes instead of hashbrowns but I don’t think it would have the best results. You could maybe parboil the potatoes and carrots so that they are able to fully cook with this pie. You will have to let us know how it turns out.

  3. Made this tonight and it was a big hit! I didn’t have bbq sauce but used some A1 steak sauce. The kids loved it! Thanks for sharing!5 stars

  4. Just made the Cheeseburger Pot Pie and it came out delicious!!! I had dill pickles on the side but I think next time I am going to add a half of cup of chopped pickles like I do on my Cheeseburger Pizza.
I am definitely making this dish again!5 stars
