Planning a gathering of friends? Add in a refreshing light sparkling taste of an Aperol Spritz Cocktail to your menu!
Deliciously flavorful, sweet and with a hint of bitterness, this pretty cocktail is an Italian favorite.
This thirst-quenching aperitif is one of the best refreshments for summer celebrations or Sunday brunches.
What is Aperol Spritz?
This tasty aperitif has Italian origins. Containing just three ingredients, Aperol liquor, Prosecco sparkling wine, and seltzer water.
The drink’s distinctive flavor and bright coral hue comes from Aperol, a pleasantly bitter, low-alcohol Italian spirit, made from a variety of herbs. These include rhubarb and cinchona, the same herb that gives tonic water it’s thirst-quenching edge. Some people compare Aperol to Campari.
What Glasses to Use
Aperol spritz is best served in long-stemmed jumbo wine glasses to hold lots of ice cubes. This effervescent beverage looks especially pretty in bubble glasses. Or, you can serve it in highball glasses in a pinch. Add in an organe slice for garnish.
The Best Prosecco for Aperol Spritz
Prosecco, an Italian sparkling wine, will give Aperol spritz an extra bubbly lift. It comes in a variety of sweetness levels, so the best one to select depends on you or your guests’ tastes.
Demi-sec is the sweetest, and will nicely balance the natural bitterness of Aperol. But if it isn’t to your taste either dry, extra dry, or brut Prosecco might be better options. Champagne or other sparkling wine can serve as substitutes for the Prosecco.
How to Make Aperol Spritz
Mixing Aperol spritz in the glass is so easy. Here’s all you do!
- Fill long-stemmed glass with ice cubes.
- Add remaining ingredients.
Serve ice cold with your choice of garnish!
The Best Garnishes
With a drink this pretty you can easily skip the garnish, but where is the fun in that!
- Orange slices make a pretty presentation in this coral-colored drink.
- Use lemon and lime slices or a citrus twist like in a French 75!
An alternative version, perfect for sweltering summer days, is a frozen Aperol spritz. For this version, leave out the sparkling ingredients and simple blend ice and Aperol into a slushy, cooling refreshment. Fill a glass and top with a persecco floater.
Aperol spritz adds a little sunshine and sparkle to any celebration!
