Taquitos made in the air fryer are extra easy, cook quickly and come out crisp. Plus, you don’t have to worry about the hassle of frying.

These Air fryer Taquitos are little hand-held bites, crunchy on the outside with a cheesy chicken filling and a little bit of spice from fresh jalapenos!

Amazing Air Fryer Taquitos

We love chicken taquitos and these are no exception.

  • These are easy to make ahead of time (and can even be frozen before cooking).
  • They’re great snacks for game day or a perfect meal with some Homemade Style Salsa.
  • Load them up with your favorite ingredients and/or meats and veggies.

Ingredients

CHICKEN We use leftover chicken or rotisserie chicken for these but taquitos are great for using up leftovers like taco meat or pork.

TORTILLAS Corn tortillas are the traditional option (and my favorite for sure), but you can use flour tortillas too. Be sure to heat the tortillas first so they don’t crack when rolling.

CHEESE Cream cheese makes the filling extra creamy while shredded cheese adds ooey gooey goodness.

FLAVOR The meat is seasoned with homemade taco seasoning and fresh or pickled jalapenos add a bit of heat.

I love the added heat from jalapenos in this version…. to be honest, I love spice added to almost anything!

How to Make Air Fryer Taquitos

  1. Season chicken with taco seasoning and mix with cream cheese, jalapenos, and green onions until creamy.
  2. Place a scoop of the mixture in the center of a softened tortilla, add cheese, and roll tightly. Secure with a toothpick.
  3. Brush with oil. Place in the Air Fryer, being sure to keep some space between each taquito so they cook evenly.

Leftovers

  • Leftover taquitos can be kept in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for about 4 days. Reheat them in a toaster oven or under the broiler for about 5 minutes.
  • Freeze them in zippered bags and label them with the date and they will keep about 2 months.

  1. Holly
I found you in 2017, and have been using your recipes since then.
    They are delicious and easy!
    Thank you for your work.

I did have to laugh at the Air Fryer Taquitos recipe. You carefully included how to store
left overs. I burst out laughing. What leftovers??????????5 stars

  2. Tried these today for lunch. Easy to prepare. Had to cook about 5 minutes longer to achieve crunchiness, but all air fryers are different. They are so so good!! Had leftovers but I doubt they will make it through the rest of the day. Thanks for posting they are creamy, crunchy deliciousness!!5 stars

  3. Am I supposed to have filling left over? I have a cup of cheese, which is 16 tablespoons – 2 TB for each tortilla. But I have 2 cups of filling (or at least, two cups of meat!) which is double the amount of filling needed to put 2 TB in each tortilla. Or was it supposed to be 4 TB (1/4 cup) of filling in each tortilla?

    1. Sorry for the confusion Sarah, I do heaping tablespoons but you’ll want to divide the filling over the tortillas. I’ve updated the recipe.

  4. I’m confused about what to do with the cream cheese, jalapeno and green onion blend. Is that what you dip them in?

    1. The cream cheese, jalapenos, and green onions should be added to the chicken from step 1. Once combined this mixture will become your taquito filling, I hope this helped!

    1. If you use the air fryer setting on your toaster air fryer the directions should remain the same. As appliances can vary, keep an eye on them if they seem to be browning too quickly, turn the temperature down.
