Ingredients & Variations

CHICKEN Boneless, skinless breasts are our favorite choice but you can cook bone-in chicken breasts in the air fryer. Rather than rolling the chicken breasts, I find it easier to cut a slit in the side and fill it (for either bone-in or boneless chicken).

FILLING The cheese filling is really where the flavor is! Cream cheese and feta are a perfect combination along with spinach and diced bell peppers. Diced ham, crumbled bacon bits, fried mushrooms, or sun-dried tomatoes will all add a new dimension to this dish!

SEASONINGS Brush the chicken breasts with olive oil and season. I use paprika and garlic powder but you can use chicken Seasoning or Italian Seasoning or another favorite seasoning blend from your cupboard.

VARIATIONS For a new flavor profile, wrap the outside of the filled chicken breasts with slices of raw bacon and secure them with toothpicks before air frying.

  • Let the cream cheese come to room temperature for easier mixing.

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts 5-6 ounces each
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon each salt & pepper

  • 3 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 2 ounces feta cheese crumbled
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 ½ cups fresh spinach finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons red bell pepper finely diced, or tomato
  • ¼ teaspoon dried oregano

  • Mix all filling ingredients in a bowl.
  • Place chicken on a cutting board and butterfly each chicken breast ¾ of the way through, do not cut all of the way through.
  • Divide filling over the chicken breasts and secure with a toothpick.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 360°F.
  • Rub the outside of the chicken with olive oil and season with paprika, garlic powder, salt & pepper.
  • Place in a single layer in the air fryer and cook 18-22 minutes or until the chicken reaches 165°F with an instant-read thermometer.

I do not add additional salt to the filling as I find the feta to be salty enough. Once mixed, you can taste the filling and add salt and pepper to taste.
This recipe is for 5-6 oz chicken breasts. If your chicken is larger or smaller cooking time will need to be adjusted. Appliances can vary, check the chicken with a thermometer early.
Do not cut the chicken breasts all of the way through. Seal with a toothpick and ensure you remove all of the toothpicks before serving.
Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer until heated through.
No Air Fryer? No Problem! These stuffed chicken breasts can be baked in the oven at 375°F for 32-37 minutes or until they reach 165°F.

    1. Hi Linley! Yes, you can freeze air fryer stuffed chicken breasts before cooking. Prepare and stuff the chicken, wrap them individually in plastic wrap, and store them all in an airtight container. When you’re ready to cook, thaw in the fridge overnight then air fryer as per the recipe. I hope that helps!

  4. Hi Holly, I don’t own an air fryer, will I have the same results in the oven? Would I use the same temp of 360 and the same time in oven? thanks in advance~ Kindest Regards, Michelle

  5. Delicious! And, the instructions were clear making them easy to assemble. They’ll be on regular rotation at our house. I wouldn’t make any changes whatsoever.5 stars

  8. Recipe sounds awesome but my husband can’t have spinach because he’s taking warfarin. Do you have a likely substitute? Thanks.5 stars

  9. I just made this for dinner. I followed the recipe exactly (using the baking method in the footnotes, but I increased the time by 5 minutes since my chicken breasts were slightly larger). It ended up being awesome! So delicious and not too salty from the feta. I will definitely make this again. I served mine with a side of mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, and rolls. It was a hit. Thanks for the great recipe!!!5 stars

  10. Hi, my Air fryer has a paddle and no preheat option. Also I can’t tell what heat it’s at as it doesn’t say. Should I remove the paddle and just let it heat for a fe let minutes?5 stars

    1. Hi Aycee, we have never tried this recipe in an air fryer like that. You could try without the paddle but instead of preheating you can add a few additional minutes to the cooking time. Just be sure to get the internal temperature of the chicken before serving.

  11. Hi Holly, I really enjoy your recipes a lot. I have a question for you. With the stuffed chicken breasts done in the air flyer, can I substitute any other cheese instead of feta. My household are not fans of feta. Please let me know as I want to make this recipe soon. Thanks so much!
