Strawberry Banana Salad is one of those luscious dishes that is perfect for any occasion! It is sweet, fluffy and creamy, making it a great option for dessert but it also serves well as a side dish. I don’t know about you, but I always go for the fruit salad at a picnic or party! We’ve always had Ambrosia Salad with both picnics and turkey dinner but this is our new favorite!
This recipe starts with mashed ripe bananas. It is important to add the lemon to this recipe to keep your bananas from turning brown, plus the tangy juice adds a great flavor dimension to complement the natural sweetness of the fruit! We add in a combination of crushed pineapple and fresh strawberries but any berry works great in this recipe including raspberries, blackberries or blueberries!
A dessert salad is something that you can’t go wrong with when you are feeding a crowd of hungry guests! While it might not be a leafy green salad, it is packed with Greek yogurt and nutritious fruits, making this one sweet you can savor without all of the guilt!
This recipe does call for fresh lemon juice and in this case fresh is definitely best! If you can’t get fresh you can substitute 1 tablespoon bottled lemon juice.
You can make this dish a few hours ahead of time and leftovers (if you’re lucky enough to have any) will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days!
Strawberry Banana Salad
- 3 ripe bananas
- ½ lemon juiced
- ⅓ cup sugar
- 14 ounces crushed pineapple drained
- 1 ½ cups strawberries diced
- ½ cup maraschino cherries chopped
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 tub whipped topping 8 ounces
- Place bananas in a large bowl and mash. Stir in juice from ½ of a lemon.
- Add sugar, pineapple and greek yogurt. Stir until smooth. Stir in cherries and strawberries.
- Fold in whipped topping. Refrigerate until serving.

Hi Michele, we haven’t tried this recipe with Splenda yet. So I can’t say if it would work instead of sugar. If you do try it the package likely has a conversion chart for baking. Let us know how it turns out!

Hi- is it possible to use fresh pineapple instead of canned, and whipped cream (either from a can or made from heavy/whipping cream) instead of the whipped topping? If so, are there any adjustments that should be considered?
I haven’t tried it so I can’t say for sure M, but fresh pineapple should be just fine. The whipped topping holds up better than whipped cream, so your salad may not have as much structure after it sits. If you try it I would love to hear how it turns out!
Do you have to use greek yogurt? My kids aren’t the biggest fans of greek yogurt, and if I can use regular yogurt is it plain yogurt or vanilla flavored yogurt? Thank you
Regular yogurt would work perfectly (the texture is a bit softer but it’ll still work great). Vanilla is sweetened so I’d recommend plain.

I LOVE this recipe!! It’s great for spring/summertime picnics and BBQs. I make it several times a year and never have leftovers. The only change I’ve made is NO SUGAR. Personally, all the fruit and whipped cream make it PLENTY sweet for me (and no one has ever complained). But so so easy and yummy.

Anything you can use besides pineapple? I love fresh pineapple but not canned!
I have only tried the recipe as written. You may be able to substitute some other crushed fruit, but it would change the taste and texture of the salad. Let us know if you try it!
The salad was very good but nothing special.
Just taste like the regular whip cream fruit salad I make often. However it calls for so much sugar

I made this for our church annual fall dinner. It was leftover the next day and was still delicious! I used real heavy whipping cream whipped up to what would’ve been an 8 oz container of cool whip and it still held up! I loved it!
Made this for memorial day and it was delicious… however, it seemed runny to me… do you squeeze the juice from the pineapple? I did let it drain while I prepped everything else… I tasted it when I was done and it was amazing as is, but I’m a foodie and can never leave a recipe as it’s printed, I always venture off from the paper… we own an ice cream parlor and it reminded me of a banana split, so I threw in some mini chocolate chips and crushed pecan pieces!! I should add, I also took an empty serving bowl home, everyone devoured it!! Thank you for the great recipe!!
