Quiz Time! What’s Cooking in ‘Everyday Comfortโ€™?

Ready for some fun? Take a guess below and see if youโ€™re right! (Click the arrow for the answer).

Which of the following recipes took the most tests to perfect?
a) Spicy Hoisin Beef with Garlic Ramen Noodles
b) Three-Cheese Scalloped Potato & Beef Gratin
c) Rustic Beef & Veggie Pot Pie

I tested the Spicy Hoisin Beef with Garlic Ramen Noodles a whopping 13 times to get it just right!

This dish started as a teriyaki dish before changing the sauce to a hoisin base. I experimented with different veggies, types of noodles, and sauce variations until it was perfect! It’s my daughter Maddy’s favorite dish.

Rustic Beef & Veggie Pot Pie was tested 12 times, and Three-Cheese Scalloped Potato & Beef Gratin was tested 9 times.

Which family recipe is Holly most excited to share that has never been shared before?
a) Baked Chicken Spaghetti
b) Egg Roll in a Bowl
c) My Momโ€™s Best Ever Pork Roast & Gravy

I’m so excited to share my Mom’s Pork Roast with you! It’s a favorite family recipe and the ULTIMATE comfort food! This is the recipe my mom makes for me when I go home, and I can’t wait for you to try itโ€”the gravy is the BEST.

Which recipe was a favorite last-minute addition to ‘Everyday Comfort’?
a) Gonna-Want-Seconds Cheesesteak Pasta
b) Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies
c) Lemon Pesto Shrimp Pasta with Pepper Parm Crumbs

Gonna-Want-Seconds Cheesesteak Pasta is the last-minute addition that we were all obsessed with at first bite!

It started as a beef and zucchini ragout and evolved into a manicotti recipe. After about 7 tests, it was missing the mark; we pivoted and immediately fell in love with this cheesesteak pasta. After an additional 6 tests (including a ground beef variation), it was ready to go! You’re literally ‘Gonna Want Seconds.’

In ‘Everyday Comfort,’ what unique twist does Holly put on her famous Chicken Pot Pie recipe?
a) A layer of melted cheese
b) Tucks it into pasta shells
c) A secret blend of spices

I love this fun twist on my Chicken Pot Pie (a recipe I make for my mom as a Motherโ€™s Day gift by request). My Chicken Pot Pie Stuffed Shells recipe is topped with Herb Butter Crumbs for a deliciously cozy mash-up.

What should you do if your dish from ‘Everyday Comfort’ turns out too delicious?
a) Hide the leftovers so no one else finds them
b) Post a mouthwatering photo and tag @spendpennies on Instagram
c) Take a victory lap around your kitchen
d) All of the above

All of the above!

When your dish turns out that good, you should definitely keep it all to yourself, show off your masterpiece, and celebrate your culinary victory!

What is the unexpected ingredient in Hollyโ€™s favorite Cozy Chicken, Broccoli, and Wild Rice Casserole?
a) Curry powder
b) Crushed pineapple
c) Dijon mustard

The secret to my Cozy Chicken, Broccoli, and Wild Rice Casserole is a touch of curry powderโ€”it adds a surprising warmth and depth that makes this dish feel extra special! Everyone raves about it.

True or False: One of the recipes in the cookbook is inspired by a Greek family Holly met at a farmers market.

Yes, that’s true! The Feta Meatballs with Lemon Orzo is inspired by a lovely Greek family I met at a farmers market. Their food and passion for fresh, vibrant flavors led to this delicious dish. Itโ€™s absolutely one of my favorites.
