I’ve been making flavored water on a daily basis for a very long time (lots of yummy water ideas here)!  I love the subtle taste of the fruits in it and it definitely helps me drink more water!  I hadn’t given a ton of thought to the properties of the ingredients.  Recently I saw delicious Detox water by Cassey over at Blogilates (she has a couple of other great drinks over there to check out!)  I realized that the ingredients in the flavored waters I’d already been making not only taste wonderful but depending on your additions, they also contain properties that are extremely beneficial to your body!

This Slimming Detox Water is filled with so many great ingredients!  And even more, it tastes great!  I make this water in a large container and sip on it all day long!

Slimming Detox Water Benefits

        • Water: The most important ingredient is water!  We all know that water is good for us and we also have heard it’s great for weight loss!  Keeping hydrated boosts metabolism, aids in digestion, helps fill you up.  (Not to mention drinking water is great for skin too).
        • Lime & Lemon: These citrus juices help with digestion and relieve bloating!  (They have qualities similar to our own digestive enzymes).
        • Ginger: Ginger naturally calms the belly!  The benefits of ginger are endless!  It has anti-inflammatory  properties, can help with fat burning and even boosts your immune system!
        • Oranges: Of course oranges contain Vitamin C but that’s not all, the carotenoids and flavonoids in oranges help eliminate toxins and stimulate the immune system.
        • Mint:  Mint stimulates the digestive enzymes, soothes the belly and aids in digestion (and adds a great flavor!)
        • Cucumber:  Cucumbers contain lots of vitamin A (antioxidants), C and the B vitamins.  They are known for flushing out toxins!  In addition, the electrolytes in cucumbers can reduce water retention!

Of course water is not a magic weight loss pill, but drinking more water has been proven to be effective in weight loss.  So why not add in some wonderful ingredients that not only taste great but have added benefits!

  1. Hi,
Can you keep adding more water in the jar throughout the day?
Also can I use skinless cucumber as I find the taste a bit bitter with the cucumber skin?

    1. You definitely could add more water throughout the day. Feel free to omit the skins of the cucumber if you prefer. Enjoy!

  2. HELLO, I WAS PLAYING AROUND WITH GOOGLE LOOKING FOR DETOX INFUSED WATER IDEAS AND THIS SITE APPEARED. I LOVE IT!

  3. I having problems with my “midsection”do you think I need to try this,I’m not really trying to loose weight…Will this help with that?3 stars

    1. Hi Shanda, this flavored water is a great-tasting way to get your daily intake of water in! You can take a read through the ingredient benefits listed in this post and check out the additional sources at the bottom to determine if it best for you. Have a great day :)

  4. How ti start this remedy 2 times a day or 1 time a day its should in the morning or night and how much time we need keep it and then drink

  5. Hi Holly,

I am going to try your drink with a 1Gallon bottle. I do have one important question? Do you keep changing all the ingredients everyday & use fresh ingredients everyday for a fresh 1Gallon. What do you recommend?

    1. Hi Adi, I do! I would make it in the morning and sip on it throughout the day. Then before heading to bed remove any of the flavorings and refrigerate the water and remake with fresh ingredients when I run out!

  6. The recipe is the best I have seen thus far. The ingredients are easy to find and they make it easy to follow the directions.5 stars

      1. If not eating the fruit or ingredients listed would the carb count still remain the same by only drinking the water? On a very low carb plan but this sounds amazing to try.

    1. How long do you reccomend leaving the vegetables in the water before replacing them with new fresh ones? To me, the longer the better I hope. Maybe a few days?

  7. Hi! After you’ve drank the water and the fruit is still in your bottle, do you toss the fruit/veg or do you eat it or is there some other thing you do with it? I did cucumber and lemon today (because that’s what I had) but I am looking forward to trying with all of the items after going to the grocery! THANKS!

    1. That’s totally up to you Robin! You can keep filling it up with more water if you like (we find that the citrus can get bitter reused), you could eat the fruit/veg, or you could toss them! Enjoy!

  8. I’m into natural weight loss now I’m a diabetic and I take enough medication now

    Thanks for the recipe
    Janice

  9. Love this water! I used my infusion pitcher to make the water and eyeballed the amount of citrus, cucumber, and mint leaves. Used a small slice of the fresh ginger since I am not a big fan of the flavor but it was a nice addition with the other ingredients. Noticed I didnt feel as puffy especially my hands and the urge to snack eased a lot. Will continue to drink this water as I do think there are some good health benefits. Made and reviewed for the Alphabet Tag game.5 stars

  10. 1) Is this recipe used for 1 gallon of water or should I use more of the ingredients?

    2) Can I make it at night and put it in the refrigerator for the next day? I drink a gallon of water a day so I would like to make this my gallon a day.

    3) Once I’m done drinking the water, can I reuse the fruit and vegetables left in my jar? Or do I have to make another at the end of drinking the water?

    1. This makes about 2 qt, you can add more of the ingredients to your liking. The peels in the citrus can become a little bit bitter if left too long so for that reason I don’t generally re-use the leftovers. You may find it ok for your liking so give it a try!

  11. I was expecting not to be thrilled with the flavoring (not a fan of cumcumbers but didn’t want to alter the concoction too much as I was leaving out the ginger) but I was pleasantly surprised! I look forward to drinking this on a regular basis. (Also looking forward to the health benefits!).5 stars

  12. Your slimming detox water sounds so refreshing delicious. Drinking infused water is really the best strategy, if weight loss is your goal and you think plain water tastes too bland. Of course it’s never as sweet as soda (if you think you can’t live without it) but the ingredient composition is so flavorful that after a while the taste buds get used to it and love it. Just don’t give up too early. Drinking plenty of (infused) water instead of soda is a “keystone habit” – one of the most important habits with weight loss and a crucial catalyst for other healthy habits.5 stars

  14. I made this detox water and it is fantastic!! The taste is great and my belly bloat is gone and I feel wonderful, great detox .

  15. Thanks for this shared knowlegde..but how long can each preparation last and if it can last more than a day,can i keep refilling with water?5 stars

    1. I usually make it in the morning and sip on it throughout the day. Before I head to bed I remove any of the flavorings and refrigerate the water. It should last a few days like that but I always drink it before then! :)

  16. Does it have to be consumed chilled? Because keeping it in the refrigerator overnight and having it in the morning makes it really chilled and difficult to drink.

    1. I leave it out during the day while I’m drinking it. Since it contains cut fruit and vegetables, I would recommend refrigeration.

  17. I have started using it a couple of years ago and yes it is very helpful . Now I can’t imagine my day without detox. Very helpful article..

    1. I don’t peel them. If leaving overnight I would suggest peeling the citrus and using only the peeled skin (not the white part) to avoid it getting bitter.

  18. Sorry, but this water is horrible & bitter, since you did not say to peel the fruit! Let it sit overnight and instead, I ate the fruit.

  19. Ever since I tried derox water. It did not only help me lose my weight but it also made me stop drinking carbonated drinks and plain water.

  20. This sounds great … I am brand new to this idea … how much do you drink at a time and how often … is it a glass a day for a week or the whole jug per day … let me know … thanks

  21. I have been making these infused waters for months now and I can’t imagine drinking plain water ever again!
