I love using pumpkins to decorate in the fall because they signify Halloween but they’re also perfect for the entire fall season!

This year I wanted something a little more elegant than the classic orange pumpkin. I also wanted to keep it on a budget because I like to change up my decor frequently.  These easy metallic pumpkins fit the bill perfectly and are beautiful on your mantle or as a centrepiece!

A few things I loved about this project is that it was inexpensive and really easy, I mean even your kids could help out with this one!  Not only that, and the whole project cost around $10!  We stopped at the dollar store and found cute pumpkins in a few different shapes and then grabbed some inexpensive metallic paint and some faux fall leaves (but if you’re lucky enough to have beautiful fresh leaves in your area, you could certainly use those).  I couldn’t have been happier with the results!

Keep in mind, part of the charm of these lovely pumpkins is their imperfections.  The spots on the original pumpkins you see below left little raised bumps on the painted pumpkins along with other nicks and scratches.  When choosing these guys, I made sure the surface wasn’t completely smooth.  During painting, I didn’t worry too much about brush marks or strokes with these as I wasn’t looking for a smooth shiny surface, I wanted a little bit of texture.

How to Make Metallic Painted Pumpkins

SUPPLIES

DIRECTIONS

1.  Brush any dust off your pumpkins and prepare your work surface with paper or newspaper.

2.  Paint a thin coat of metallic paint on your pumpkins and let dry about 10 minutes.  It will appear that the paint won’t cover the original color but don’t worry.  As long as your paint is multi purpose, it should stick just fine.

3.  Continue painting, allowing pumpkins to dry between each coat until you reach your desired color.  Mine took 3 coats.  Let dry completely.  Surround pumpkins with leaves and/or ribbon on your mantel.
