Go Natural.  Buy products as they appear in nature as often as possible. Organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and so  much  more are great choices.

Know your foods.  If you can only afford to buy some organic foods know which ones to buy!

Buy Organic:

  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Lettuce (spinach)
  • Grapes
  • Celery
  • Cucumbers
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Peppers

Less likely to be contaminated:

  • Corn
  • Onions
  • Pineapple
  • Avocado
  • Mangoes
  • Grapefruit

Don’t buy prepackaged foods.  Prepackaged foods are expensive and even more so when they tailor to an expensive diet!   You can easily make your own gluten free baking mixes!  The pre-made mixes are more expensive, you can make your own at a fraction of the cost by combining just 4 ingredients.

Buy local!  Find a local farm or farmer’s market that you can visit weekly to stock up on eggs, veggies and even organic meat.  Check Local Harvest to find a farm or farmers market near you!

Visit a local bulk store.  They often have an organic section.  Before you go,  make sure you know your prices.  While some items may be more expensive in bulk, if you only need a little, bulk is a better option.

Shop at your regular supermarket!  While you may have to do a little extra searching, the prices are usually lower than a typical “Organic Supermarket”.

Watch for sales and price match… and when you find one stock up!  Coupons are rare, but sales do happen.  Keep an eye on the website of your favorite store for sales… other stores carrying the same brand or product will often price match!  When you see a good sale, stock up!  Research the best ways to preserve your items so you are prepared when you get home.  I have a vacuum sealer I use to store everything from meat to bread and vegetables!  They last MONTHS longer that way!

Search for coupons!  Organic coupons are rare but do exist!  Check the website for your local Organic store, they often have coupons on their site.

Don’t just shop the organic aisle.  Our grocery store has ‘organic’ lettuce with the prepackaged lettuce for a great price!

Make it fun.  Make your own gluten free breads, muffins and have your kids pitch in!  Make it a weekend family event … a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon together and prepare for the week!
