Glass cleaner is a household essential that we simply can’t do without. If I am tired or stretched for time, there are some things that I can let “slide” but streaky and dirty mirrors, windows and other surfaces drive me a little bit crazy (not to mention I have one kid that is notorious for getting toothpaste on the mirror)!

You’ll rarely find any home where glass cleaner is not on hand. However, there are a few reasons may want to start making your own!  The store brand can be toxic and somewhat pricey.  (Or maybe you ran out or just don’t feel like going to the store).  Either way, you’re in luck! Making your own glass cleaner is actually much simpler than you might think and it can be made from common household ingredients.

I’ve actually been making my own glass cleaner for quite a while (it’s super easy and cheap).  I recently came across a cool comparison of Homemade Glass cleaners from Crunchy Betty.  After reading it, I took my own recipe and added in cornstarch.  Sounds totally weird but it made something great even better!!  Worked like a charm!

Always be sure to keep out of reach of children.

Items You’ll Need For This Recipe

* Spray Bottle * Rubbing Alcohol * White Vinegar *

Mix together:

  • 1/8 cup rubbing alcohol (aka 70% isopropyl alcohol)
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups water

Gently shake before using.  Spray on glass and wipe until dry with a paper towel for a streak free shine!

I use this on my fixtures as well.  As with any new cleaning product, be sure it is compatible with the materials you are spraying it on, you may want to test it in a hidden area.

Note: It is important to always be sure not to breathe in the alcohol vapors.

When you actually read how simple the recipe is, you can’t believe you’ve been purchasing the stuff for so long, can you??!! Happy cleaning!
