Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

 

Dishwasher Detergent is expensive, and if you have a large family you will go through tons each month.  Making homemade Dishwasher Detergent is super easy and really cheap.

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent:

  • 1 Cup of Borax
  • 1 Cup of Washing Soda
  • 1 Plastic container with a lid
  • Distilled white vinegar

*All of the above ingredients can be found at your local grocery store.*

  1. Mix the borax and the washing soda, breaking up any clumps as you go.
  2. Store in a sealed container.  Easy right?!

To Use:

  1. When you are ready to run a load of dirty dishes add 1 Tablespoon of DIY Dishwasher Detergent to your soap dispenser and fill your rinse aid container with distilled white vinegar.
  2. Run your dishwasher as usual.  Be sure to keep this safely out of reach of children & pets!

  3. This is really cool.. i love it. We get so caught up in the hustle and bustle we call life.. we look for the easy and convenient ways to save time..but it doesn’t save money.. it gets spendy.. if we could learn more ways to be self sufficient and make our own soaps and clothes and food.. we could save a lot.. but boy its a toss between time and money sometimes isn’t it?

  5. If you are concerned about smell, you might be able to add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil but I don’t know if that would do anything to the chemical makeup where it wouldn’t clean as well. I wouldn’t think so, but I haven’t tried it…
