Our thoughts

I have to tell you how cute this movie was!  We were recently provided with a copy of Phineas & Ferb Animal Agents to review… When the package came, my 9 year old daughter was SO excited, she wanted to watch it right then!!

First of all, my 9 year old had seen this movie advertised on TV was super excited by the little fold up binoculars that were in the package along with the Agent card!!  It was like getting the prize out of the cereal box.  :)

This is such a cute show!  Both of my daughters (aged 15 and 9) sat and watched the whole thing.  I decided to let them review this movie because, although I watched it, it really is all about what the kids think!

Here’s what they had to say (unedited version):

Age 9:

“I liked it.  It’s really funny. I would like to watch it all the time now…  I especially loved the second part because her mom was actually in the room and it’s really funny! I loved how it came with the binoculars (and I saw them on tv).  When tit came I read the instructions and made my very own spy kit and I had a lot of fun with it.  I used it go around the house to look at mysterious things I thought were unnatural and tried to figure out what happened.”

Age 15:

“I really like the creativity and how the kids can get away with a lot of things.  I didn’t find it was too young for me, even as a 15 year old,  I find it fun and cute to watch.”

I really liked it too!  I thought it was a really cute show and I loved that it was totally appropriate for both girls!

iPieces iPad Games Review

Have you heard about iPieces from Pressman Toys?  If you haven’t this is something you are definitely going to want to check out!!  iPieces are SUPER fun!!  They are the games we know and love…  that use your iPad as the gameboard!

There are 5 awesome games to choose from:

  • iPieces™ Fishing
  • iPieces™ Snakes & Ladders
  • iPieces™ Air Hockey
  • iPieces™ Pool
  • iPieces™ Game of Goose

We we lucky enough to review both iPieces™ Fishing Game and iPieces™ Air Hockey!  Our iPad is the original version and this worked perfectly!!

The install was done by my 8 year old… it’s that easy!  Just pop over to the App Store on your iPad, we searched “fishing game Pressman” and clicked install, and we were ready to play!  It took less than a minute to set up (a definite bonus when the kids are crowded around eager to start).

The first game we played with the iPieces™ Fishing Game!  It was me vs. my 8 year old daughter.  It’s super easy to play…   the object is to catch your fish and move them to your bucket.  This game has a couple of added challenges to watch for (like the stork coming along and stealing fish out of your bucket).

The fishing game is that it can be 1-4 players which is great because kids can play by themselves or if you have 3 or 4 kids they can all play at once.   Both my 14 and 8 year old daughters found this game super fun but younger kids could easily play this!

The little fishing rods themselves are sturdy and easy to hold for both big and little hands.  The part of playing piece that touches the screen is smooth and after playing for 45 minutes straight there were no marks left on the surface of the iPad (we do have Ghost Armour on our iPad).

The second game we played with the iPieces™ Air Hockey!  This time we all took turns playing. It’s super easy to install and play….  There are different modes you can play with the iPieces™ Air Hockey game including tournament & quick battle.  You can choose how long you’d like the game to last as well.

The Air Hockey Game has only a 2 player mode so this isn’t a game that your kids can play by themselves.  However, this was a great family game.  We all had a chance to play it, my 16 year old son included (and he never plays games).

This game was fun because it really got everyone going…    We had a little family tournament and it was just a blast.  All of the kids (8, 14 and 16 years old) loved it!  These games would be great for travel because the pieces all pack up in little sturdy boxes which makes them super easy to pack along.  Both games have amused all ages in our family!

iPieces are available for purchase at Toys“R”Us, Barnes & Noble, K-mart, Radio Shack, Learning Express, and BJ’s Wholesale Club stores nationwide. They are also available online at Amazon or Toys “R” Us.

With the holidays coming, these are perfect gifts!  I am going to be getting a couple of sets to give to people who we exchange “family” gifts with for the holidays this year!

Watch for our giveaway starting November 12, 2012!!

Movie Review: Finding Nemo 3D

I recently took my 8 year old daughter to see Finding Nemo 3D!!  We arrived at the theater and it was packed… we ended up having to take a seat in the 3rd row.  I was a little bit concerned that we’d be too close and wouldn’t be able to see or wouldn’t get the full 3D effect!  Luckily that wasn’t the case at all, even close up it was amazing.

In case you haven’t seen the movie before… it’s rated G and is suitable for all audiences. “Finding Nemo” follows the journey of an overly protective clownfish named Marlin and his son Nemo — who become separated in the Great Barrier Reef.  Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from his ocean home and dumped into a fish tank in a dentist’s office. Nemo’s dad Marlin meets up with Dory, a friendly-but-forgetful Pacific regal blue tang, and they begin the journey of “Finding Nemo”!

So we grabbed our 3D glasses and some popcorn and got settled.  Now, I can’t mention this movie without mentioning the starter…  Rex from Toy Story and all of his bath time buddies having a party!  This was hilarious, both my daughter and I totally loved this starter.

I also have teenaged kids… so I have seen Finding Nemo before but not for many years.  Kind of like a blast from the past for me, the story of this movie was just as great now as it was then.  However, that being said, I’ve only seen it on the small screen before.  Viewing the characters not only on the big screen but also in 3D was awesome to watch!

My daughter absolutely LOVED this movie.  It was so cool to see it in 3D because of all of the marine life.  The seaweed rocked back and forth and the bubbles looked awesome in 3D.  The effects were so perfect for an underwater movie!  There are some scenes where there is a lot of activity, like the shark chasing Marlin & Dory around which seem so much more exciting for the little ones in 3D!

As with all Disney movies, this was just so entertaining!  And no matter how many times you’ve seen it, you always pick up a new joke that you missed before.  I love listening to my daughter giggle along with all the kids around us!  I forgot all of the cute little lines in this movie that I loved (especially the seagulls saying “mine, mine, mine…”)!

The verdict?  I loved it and so did my daughter… I think the 3D aspect adds so much to this movie!  Even if you’ve seen Finding Nemo before, going to the theatre to see it in 3D should be on your “must do” list!  As great as this movie is at home, it’s even better in 3D!!  Feel free to leave a comment below and let me know what you think!!

Review: Salon Ziba New York!

While attending the Blogher conference in New York I had an event to attend.  I was fortunate enough to get to visit Salon Ziba with some other blogger friends for a little pampering before our event!  It was an amazing experience from the moment I walked in until the moment I left.  The salon is beautiful with a very tranquil atmosphere!

We arrived to a team of stylists waiting for us and we were lead to the sinks.  I got a wash and condition followed by the most amazing head massage, which I wish could’ve gone on forever!  Once I was washed, I got to meet my stylist Daniel.  He spent some time asking me what I wanted, what type of event I was attending and what I was wearing to ensure he could help me get just the style I was looking for!

I told him I wanted to have my hair down but I up in the front.  He went to work right away.  I loved that Salon Ziba had wifi so I was able to peek in on my blog and make sure everything was running smoothly.  I was offered a beverage as we chatted and I just relaxed and enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere!  Daniel curled the back of my hair, which I thought looked amazing.  He then proceeded to pin back pieces of the front all the while ensuring that I was happy with the progress (of course I was!!).

By the time Daniel had finished my hair I just felt so glamorous!  He did such a fabulous job, it was more than I could’ve hoped for.  One concern I had was that my hair doesn’t hold curl well.  Not only was it windy and humid but we had to try to hail a taxi from our hotel later so I was pretty worried!  However, my hair didn’t droop or fall at all.  It stayed perfect all evening and into the wee hours of the morning!

If you are ever in New York, you need to set aside some time to get some pampering at Salon Ziba!  It was definitely a highlight of my trip!

You can find Salon Ziba online here and don’t forget to visit their Facebook page!

Thank you Daniel and the Salon Ziba team for a fabulous and relaxing afternoon!  Can’t wait to see you next time!!

Movie Review: Disneynature Chimpanzee

Movie Review: Disneynature Chimpanzee

We recently were lucky enough to receive a copy of the new Blu-Ray + DVD Combo Pack of Disneynature Chimpanzee!  My girls and I were so excited to watch this!!  Both girls (age 8 and 14) absolutely loved this movie and so did I!  You can’t help but fall in love with little Oscar, the sweet little chimpanzee star of this movie!  Tim Allen was a great narrator and the language was simple enough that even my 8 year old was able follow everything with just a few questions!

Chimpanzee is an amazing glimpse into the life of baby Oscar and his mother Isha as well as the rest of their “family”!  It was absolutely heartwarming to watch the bond between Oscar and his mother as she nurtures him and teaches him how to survive in the jungle!  He is such an adorable playful little guy and just so much fun to watch!  I loved watching my girls giggle… and constantly rewind and re-giggle at this little guy!  There was one scene where Oscar is trying over and over to break open a nut with a stick… the girls were laughing so much!  I read on Disneynature Chimpanzee’s site that some chimpanzees eat up to 270 nuts per day!

The dynamic between the chimpanzees within their own tribe as well as with other chimpanzee tribes is really fascinating!  There are a couple of intense scenes between Oscar’s tribe and another nearby tribe.  They were loud but I wouldn’t consider them to be too scary for younger children and they were not violent.  I didn’t realize that chimpanzees are so territorial and I had no idea that they were meat eaters!

Oscar suffers a tragedy in in this movie when he loses his mother at a very young age!  He has a difficult road ahead of him as he doesn’t yet have the survival skills he needs to carry on.  Eventually he is taken on by the alpha male of the group, Freddie, which is amazing and very rare.  The alpha males are not nurturing so this was really quite extraordinary to see (you might want to keep some tissues handy just in case).  In fact, at the end of the movie, this new bond is the one thing that the whole crew found to be the most amazing part of this experience!

We actually found it quite remarkable the resemblance in mannerisms to humans as well as the way they interacted!  My 14 year was amazed at how similar these species are.

At the end of the movie, there were some bloopers which we loved!  It was SO fascinating to see how some of the footage was captured and just how passionate the crew was about the production of this film and all of their “stars”!  They would spend hours to capture only moments of footage…. the filming of this movie took over 3 years!

Disneynautre Chimpanzee is a fascinating view into the life of chimpanzees and will amaze you!  This is a great choice for a family movie (my daughter watched it 3 times this week :) ).  I would say a must see for all ages!  There is so much to learn about these guys… This movie will make laugh, cry and warm your heart all at once.
